Default Project "Tiny"

And it starts..

Well I have started getting ready for another project..

Project "Tiny"
It's a '96 2 door 2wd XJ -( missing a few not so needed parts )

This will be a slow build and from now until snow is gone will mostly be a brain storm/planning build thread. Than come late spring and the work will start.

Now for the plan:
-Hybrid inner/exo cage
-D60's front and rear (HP D60 front, Full Float D60 rear)
-Full width (not narrowing these bad boys)
-D300 T-case flipped, twin sticked 4 to 1 low kit
-H2 wheels
-37-39" tires (size not set yet)
-only looking to do about 5-6" lift
-3 link front with hydro-assist
-Leaf rear with a "flex" shackle (more on this later) and a super flex joint in the frame side end of the leaf pack
-V10 out of a Dodge Ram with what ever auto is behind it.
-ALL wiring for this build will come from a donor V10 based RAM (saves on splicing and computer flashing issues)

Now these are just the basics, and I'm sure there will be more later. But this is the plan as of now. Build time 1-2 years (faster if all parts are located fast)..

Now for the pics of what I have to start with:

sounds pretty ambitious

but i has a coupla qwestions

why not beadlocks? or at least tell me you are putting stauns in those

hope its not street driven, no personal experience but have heard about spooky wandering issues with those orbital eye leaf bushings/ shackles

how ya plannin on cooling this beast? people have enough issues with the sbc's or so i have heard. and. ya sure it will fit? loaded with all the accessories?

and i know it will be cool to the one of the few and maybe only with 10 cylinders in an xj. but i bet you can get cheaper power out of an older sbc and it will be an easier swap

Would you be interested in some rear vented windows for that monster?

I plan to run inner air locks in the wheels. H2 wheels are to keep it from being way wide with out having to narrow full width axles.

As for fitting the motor in, IF I have to I'll move the fire wall.
Cooling will be a 3 or 4 core aluminum radiator and a cowl induction hood.

As for the wondering issue due to the orbital eye's in the leafs that is a concern. But i want know for sure till there in there. That is one of those things that may change as the build moves forward.

I've never been one to follow trends, so a V10 is different enough I want to at least give it a shot.

As for SBC I'll never go that route. I'm a Jeep/Dodge guy first and a Ford man second.

IF I find that the V10 just won't work than I'll go with a 360..

When it comes to a drive line (other than axles) I'll be doing a complete donor rig..

V10 in a xj....... Your insurance provider must love you. Good luck. IF and its a big IF, I believe the V10 blocks in the dodge truck and viper are the same bolt pattern. Why not skip the computer hassle and go with a manual trans such as T56 or something like that? Just a thought...

Oh a 5 speed is also a consideration.

The big thing is I can find Cheap RAM V10's all day long the Viper's are another store. Viper motor's are a bit out of my price range..

BUT, the Viper heads and intake will bolt onto the RAM's so that is a possibility. And some of the local RAM's I'm looking at for a donor do have a 5 speed. I'll drive either, just a auto is easier if your in rocks. But the tranny will be what ever is in a donor truck when I get that.

As for my insurance, I've talked with them and do to it's a mostly off roader they're not to worried. BUTT they're only given me the very basic coverage to make it road legal, no more than that.. :

I should be going to look into a set of D60's late next week.... Than it's hunt for a donor truck to buy....

I'll be plating the uni-body front to rear, building a complete Hybrid cage that will lock, rockers, front and rear bumpers and about 12 other points all together.

In no way will it look like a tube buggy this will all be in the body panels other than a halo with roof bars...
