What is this little canister right below my engine compartment light and why does it click sometimes?

The ticking is part of its normal function. The following is copied from elsewhere but is accurate.

"Evaporative Purge Control Solenoid which basically sends uncombusted fuel vapors back into the engine to be recombusted. It's meant to minimize emissions and reduce pollution."

I gotchya, thanks for the info. Mine would sometimes click when my girlfriend's would not, and vice versa. It can get pretty loud sometimes to the point where it almost sounds like a lifter!

Also I just got the Boostwerks brace today in the mail. Along with it, I ordered a longer pitman arm drop which should align my drag link with my track bar, and I now have the remanned steering box.

Time to put it all together!

The good stuff is all ready to go in!

Also, yesterday I completed replacing my passenger-side upper axle bushing. That one only took 2 hours to replace. The driver side one I did half a year ago took me 9 hours!

Everything is in – remanned steering box was so sloppy I ended up putting the old one back in. Steering is incredibly tight with the new brace. Pics soon!

Here are some pics. You can see with the new pitmam arm drop that my steering link is finally parallel with my track bar.

Well folks, it's been great. I have had so much fun being a part of this Jeep forum and modifying my XJ, but it's no longer my XJ anymore. It was exciting, but as we all know, all good things must eventually come to an end.

After on-going issues with getting warm, and the constant issue with steering veering all over the place, I've decided passenger safety and money savings were more important than the fun of modifying it. I have become tired of going on a wild goose chase, and I've moved to a 2012 two-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Scored it at 16k miles on the clock, and it's beautiful!

XJ will be missed – my first car, and it always treated me well. Now, on to the 21st century before Fiat ruins the brand name!

Well what'd you do with the xj? Sell it? Trade it in? Whatd ya get? Moving to a newer vehicle is great. I just bought my first newer vehicle, a 4th gen ram. So nice not driving my xj anymore, still have it for trails though.

I ended up trading what was left of it after I parted the valuable parts out of it for the NADA value of $3400. I put it towards the JK.

Basically my Jeep looked like the head gasket was starting to go, and that on top of the steering issues were just too much for me to take on with my new jobs. They occupy too much of my time to fix things all the time.

The JK rides really nice and it's a significant upgrade. I know the pentastar has hardly any low-end grunt like the 4.0L had, but when it comes to highway, it really kicks. Plus, being a Rubicon, it has D44 front and rear geared at 4:10 from the factory with lockers. That, and a 4:1 transfer case.

Saw the ad posted, too much coin for this beach bum. I'm sure someone will grab them up.
