No I didn't. You could though if the joints are good - but it's exactly the same as the drag link already on your XJ

Updates!
Thursday I went over another member's house and we knocked out the valve seals in the Danger Cart. Also replaced the plugs, VC grommets and CCV Orifice, and VC gasket while we were at it. Wasn't terribly hard, the back two valves were a PITA since the overhead spring compressor wouldn't fit. Had to use an alternate tool to release the springs. Overall very happy though - seems to have regained a bit of power and haven't noticed it smelling as bad anymore or smoking, but i really need to have someone drive behind me to be sure.
Releasing the springs:

Here you can see the spring keepers you have to take out, and the old valve seals.

Spark plugs definitely needed to be replaced...like 20,000 miles ago...gap was 0.050"

Also made a junkyard trip Saturday. I was intending on grabbing the rear disc brake system off a ZJ. Got part way though the disassembly and came to the part where i needed to take the cross pin out of the differential to release the axle shafts...8mm 12 point bolt holding it in place...i don't have an 8mm 12 point...****. So...no brakes. Wasn't a total loss though, got a replacement window crank, a new horn that works, and a check arm to replace the one I literally SHATTERED last week when it wouldn't let my door close (I made it).
Check it out:
Also...harbor freight "steel" jigsaw blades don't cut through metal very well...

a bit. more throttle response for sure. Idle smoothed out after I drove it a bit since you heard it at your place.
Hopefully with a new cat/o2 and cap/rotor/plug wires she'll be back to the power I used to have

ordered some new springs for my locker. Resisted the urge to splurge on other stuff until i get all the maintenance stuff done.
Got my VEIP notice from Maryland the other day, so replacing the CAT just got pushed up on my list so I pass. Trying to decide on a standard vs spun cat, and pretty sure i'm gonna go with metallic substrate this time around so it's more durable to bashing off rocks and such...
