No explanation to why it happened... My transmission simply commited suicide. Still in debate on what I'm going to do. Rebuilt auto trans and tcase will be around 1200..... Paying a shop to do everything will be around 2k.... Doing it myself and buying a 2wd parts jeep with a 5spd manual would be 800$, but not sure about 2wd trans on a 4wd....
Here's a picture I found the day before the fire. The mud that saved its life.

you cant use a 2wd tranny right away you would have to find a 4wd output shaft and a tailshaft housing...but if your considering a 5spd swap do what i did and buy a complete donor vehicle (i am doing my swap over the winter) and if your buying a donor vehicle make sure its late 1997-2001 cause you would be amazed how many things you need that arent the same through the years

Bumpers in
can't wait to finish installing it when I get back from a fishing trip this week, hopefully will drop a winch and my fogs in it soon.
As for the fire, I think I've found a used transmission and transfer case at a wrecker place so hopefully it will be back and running again so when i get money to buy them. I towed the jeep to my friends place where im
Gonna be taking everything out and getting ready for the new parts. I've got the starter ratchet strapped to the cross member and it turns over so the motor is for sure all good.

By far one of the best uses for a ratchet strap I've seen... lol. Bumper looks great!

nothing... he ran the other end of the strap to the rear cross-member because the transmission isn't there anymore and I'm guessing he's just trying to brace it or hold tension on it.

Awesome build sucks to hear about the tranny ive personally never seen that happen before and if your debating a 5 speed swap i would do it i finished mine and it is totally worth i bought a 95 had a brand new clutch fly wheel pressure plate throw out bearing and slave cylinder in the truck its worth the investment

ripped the old trans out myself, got the new one, and dropped it off locally to get it installed proffesionially. about 2 weeks ago.... found out that so many parts were needed.

new transfer case-check
front and rear driveshafts rebuilt proffesionally with all hd parts-check
hopefully hearing back from the shop by the end of the week... only thing they are lacking from getting it back running is bolts, transmission mount, motor mounts, and a new sye kit. This is killing my wallet, but my jeep is going to be 100% mechanical wise and everything wiill be under warranty. So in the long run this is the best option.
so far:
500$ for a transmission and transfer case(30 day warranty if anything is faulty)
700$ to get front and rear driveshafts rebuilt with HD parts(awesome warranty)
?$ for shop fees

I think we're getting somewhere. Everything's in except the exaust, hoping it fires up! Should be picking it up from the shop soon. Been a long couple months without it... And all my money has been going to it.
