I have one. Got my AZ ID as well. The Bug is registered out there. And trust me, I would cause registration is dirt cheap (5 years out there is 1 year here), no smog and no front license plate but, my insurance company doesnt like it. Thats why I had to get a special insurance company for the Bug. Its the only thing stopping me.

Needles and Blythe are smog free cities? I would still have to make it pass in the first place, which I guess isnt a big deal.
Have you smogged it once yet? As long as the title is in your name and you had one test already you are done with smogs for good if you have an address out there. They are in a different air district and the only time smog is required is when you buy something it has to pass smog once to get the plates. After that it is not required until it is sold again. When you change the title address with the state it moves you to the new district and you are already covered with your previous test per their regulations. There are quite a few doing this. In fact there are some folks who have set up mail forwarding services for this. lol

Nope havent smogged it yet. Not in my name either. Thats my problem. It was running on 5 cylinders when I got it so there was no way it was going to pass. I thought no big deal, I will just smog it after the new engine was in. But here we are now. I have until June which is when the tags expire. I have a few other ideas floating around in my head to get it to pass, just so that I can get it in my name and then fix the issue when I want.

Fun fact about CA smog laws. Pre 2000 vehicles still go on the rollers and get probed. They are also allowed to have 1 readiness monitor still pending and will pass. So if this was my white Jeep, it would pass. But anything 2000 and up, you have to have all the readiness monitors set and all they do is a visual and plug into the obd2 port.
Haha ya not in a great spot. Nope no chemistry will be going on. I am a simple person with a simple temporary solution. A $15 electronic item and a little wiring is all it will take. I am still going to swap the o2 sensors around to see if its just a sensor but I always have a backup plan.

Something like that. Lets just say some signals are easy to manipulate...
Change of plans. Going to make this even easier. Not going to remove or manipulate anything. Instead, I will restrict the flow to the sensor. Did the same thing on my S2000 when it was cat-less and worked just fine. And its free to do! Again, this is just temporary so that I can get it put in my name. I will fix it the right way in the end.

Why fix it stupid smog laws!!! LOL Good thing my Diesel truck I bypased all that smog crap or I would be in big trouble. Look I get it for all those hippy tree huggers but 90% of that crap they put on our vehicles is not worth a damn and only causes more issues for us down the road.

Now when an EGR valve goes bad they look like the turbo went out, they look like an old steam locomotive going down the highway, cars behind it can't even see where they are going it is so thick. So when a truck is out on the road and only a couple hundred miles from base terminal they are going to drive it home like that.
Which is better for the environment? one minute of slight smoke a couple times a week? Or a couple hundred miles of puking tons of black smoke and particulates because an EMISSIONS CONTROL DEVICE went bad?
They NEVER take into account the "human factor" in these regulations. And when you add the human factor the law is actually worse for the environment than if they had just left it alone in the first place. Then they never admit that it was a mistake and repeal it, they just add twenty more mistakes on top of the first mistake.

Defiantly another reason to remove my EGR on my truck once my Jeep comes out of the garage. I have done a ton other stuff to my truck but the EGR is something I have wanted gone for a long time just don't want to pay someone $1000 to do it and do it right.

Yep it is technically the sellers responsibility to make sure it passes. So it will be fixed right and pass 100% legally. Besides, if I sell it, I want it right so the buyer doesnt think I sold them a dud when the check engine light pops on 100 miles later.
