From what i've read all aftermarket shafts for the 8.25 are just minor upgrades, not worth it unless you snap your axles.

True, but I'd rather start out a little stronger to lessen that possibility, then keep my stock shafts as an emergency spare.

Chromoly shafts are significantly stronger than the factory steel. I believe the alloy USA shafts also move the narrowing closer to the splines. I have them in mine but haven't looked at them since the shafts were done when it was rebuilt.

SeriousOffroad explained it pretty well a while ago, the steel difference between their chromoly and the stock 8.25 29 splines is just a minor difference. I believe alloy usa claims to be chromoly on their website but others don't for the same shafts.

Well after chasing down death wobble for a while now and still not reaching a cure, I've decided to drop the lift down 3/4" to where I originally wanted it in the first place. Hopefully this will provide better suspension geometry and fix my death wobble. So I ordered the 0"-.75" IRO adjustable shackles, new spring perches for the rear axle and will remove the .75" spacers from the front coils. The rear needs to sit down quite a bit, so hopefully removing the axle shims and replacing the JKS boomerang shackles with IRO shackles will do the trick. 3"-3.5" is where I intended to be anyway. And I still have .75" of adjustability for the future as well.

So I gotta wait until the parts reach Hawaii and wait until I get done with a field exercise, so more to follow on that...

You're going to cut your front coils? I really don't think that's going to do anything to help death wobble. Neither will dropping height from the rear.

Stock height Cherokees will get death wobble. Anything with coils, solid axle and a track bar will. What have you done to fix it and how bad is it?

On a positive note - your truck really is really really nicely put together.

I would not count on solving the death wobble by lowering the lift height. The steering geometry will not be the cause. I am lifted over 4.5" on stock steering, no DW, no bump steer. Lift has been on for four years.
More likely there is an issue with a component of the suspension/steering system or their brackets. A damaged tire/wheel can also induce DW.

I'd start looking at wheel balance, steering damper, track bar bushings, also make sure its torqued correctly. If your track bar is too tight, your jeep can go full potato on you. Ball joints, tie rod ends. Sometimes wheel backspace will do it. I got mine with a set of wheels with 4.00 bs, and had horrible DW, swapped a set of OEM steelies, 3.75bs and now it's smooth as butter.

I'm not cutting the coils?? lol I'm removing the spacers I put in to level it out with the JKS shackles. I am just putting it back down to where I wanted in the first place. Thanks for the compliments!

Steering geometry can very well be the cause, improper caster, unequal wheelbase left to right, improper draglink to track bar relationship, too much or too little toe-in, axle too far back or too far forward.

I re-adjusted my control arms again last night to stretch the front end out and play around with a different caster. It seemed to have helped, but I still need to go get a final alignment after adjusting everything and go ahead and have my wheels re-balanced for good measure. Everything else is torqued to spec and about a year old. I can't find any bad part in my suspension.

If it still exists after dropping it, alignment again, tire balancing again, then the only culprit would be my durango steering box, since it has started leaking recently. idk, but time will tell

Oh thank the lord! I thought I was going to have to unsubscribe haha!

If you're suspension really is in good order, get those wheels rebalanced and rotate them. The wheels themselves could also be damaged. I had a set of 10 hole OEM wheels and Geolanders balanced and rotated and still had DW.

Haha glad you stuck with me!

I don't think I can damage these wheels if I tried, they are a little stronger than your average wheels.

Seriously dude... Stop reading my mind! You're always one step ahead of what I'm about to do to my jeep. LOL!

I have the IRO 1-2" shackles after debating which ones I needed. They're nice but gave me too much lift and it's maxing out my shocks at full droop. I'm going to order some 0 -.75" ones this week.

They should be 4.375" eye to eye on the .75" setting since mine are 5" at the 1" of lift setting.

I love the direction you've taken your Jeep. Considering the metal cloak kit myself. Anything you wish you did different suspension wise?
