I am new to the forum and have an issue with a VERY loud whine. 2000 Jeep 4.0. Checked the following:
ac unit,
Belts
Throttle body
valves/tubes for valve/vacuum leaks
Found that the noise is coming from throttle body area:
Replaced the throttle body (new gasket)
Replace the tube/valve right below the throttle body that was cracked (I am not a mechanic, so if I use the wrong term, please have patience).
Still can't get rid of it and don't know what else to look for.
The whine (think of jet engine) starts when it warms up and at acceleration, at idle and it will sometimes stop. Can a cracked manifold cause that sound as I learned that this year Jeep has issues with the manifold?
I think I need to replace the TPS as I get a little fluctuation with the RPMs at idle. The needle will bounce sometimes quite a bit. Should have replaced it when I replaced the throttle body but didn't think about it.
Just really tired of the sound as it is very loud. I think my neigbors want to kill me when I leave in the morning. Any ideas or suggestions, please!!!

Might be a vacuum leak. If it is, you can find it by gently spraying a little carb cleaner around the obvious places where a leak might happen while the engine is running. When the RPM jumps, that's where your leak is. Your intake manifold may not be seated properly against the head.

You should start your own thread for this.
I don't know how. I looked for how to post a new thread but couldn't find anyting on it.
Regarding your suggestion: When I first tried to figure this out, I and a mechanic I know, sprayed carb clearner around it the first time and that is when we found the valve that was cracked. When it was replaced, the whining sound increased, he took it home and came back stating it was the throttle body. At this point, it sounds like the last thing to look at is the intake manifold.
Thank you for being patient and if you can tell me how to post a new thread that would be great!

[QUOTE=TFitzPat87;3353715]^^^Agreed, since it doesn't consist of much, just piece it together. IRO should have spacers and shackles that have better bushings than RC.
Also, think long and hard about how high you really want to be. I was convinced for years that 3.5" and 31's was all I needed (which it is), but now that I've been wrenching on my jeep for two years 3.5" and 31's isn't enough.[/QUOTE
My plan is to put bushwackers flat flares on and have a 31 inch tire. I like the look of that. Low and wide. Its funny though, i just looked at the tires i have on now and their 30 x 9.50 x 15 on stock height. I don't have any rubbing at all. Shouldn't i have some rubbing with that big of a tire?

No because 30s are the same size as 235s basically. Can't even tell the difference really.
So i've decided to go with a RC 2'' lift. Spacer in the front and shackles in the rear. I'm thinking of going with Skyjacker hydro shocks. I need shocks that would be soft on the pavement, because that is 90% of what i use my XJ for.
Any input on other shocks that would be good for street use? I would go Old Man EMU or Bilsteins but i can afford them at the moment.
IMO the Hydro's are a bit *too* soft. I've used both (on a Ford Ranger, not an XJ, so keep that in mind), and I liked the Nitro's better. Just felt more a little more responsive and less 'mushy' going over bumps and corners. Also seemed to settle faster when I did the 'jump up and down on the tailgate' test.
Anyways, just thought I'd put in my two cents (late), even though you already went with Hydro's =D
Well got the lift installed this weekend. Very happy i went with the 2 inch, just enough for my liking. Everything went pretty smooth, no stuck or broken bolts. Overall it took about 6 hours to do the whole lift and replace the shocks.
