I've heard good things about Accel caps and rotors, and Bosch wires are good, but I'm sure Mopar is a good choice. I always try and stay away from the "house" brands at your typical parts stores.

I'd also recommend using Champion spark plugs. They aren't the best around, but again that's what was used from the factory and XJ's seem to like them the best.

 

Not much of an update. Haven't really had anything to fix lately.
I did change my upstream o2 sensor though. I've had an intermediate rough idle ever since i bought the jeep, and now i finally figured out the fix.

Small update. Jeeps been treating me good with no flaws. (knock on wood).
Finally had some time off school to do my front sway bar bushings and end links. Definitely needed to be done, as i literally had no bushing left lol. Also got a new steering stabilizer and put that in.

When driving home from school one day i got brave and tried to push it. BIG MISTAKE LOL. I usually set the cruz at 65, but i decided to bring it up to 80 and i hit bad death wobble. So i gotta figure what the problem is.

Lastly i changed the power steering fluid from some common fluid to Mopar, because my turning was getting tighter and tighter. Changed it and it got a little better but is still tight and my wheel only goes back to center 3/4th of the way not fully. Any input on this?

 

Finally found out what my wobble was at high speeds. It was my tires out of balance this whole time.

I haven't bought anything upgrade wise yet because idk if i want to keep this xj or get another one...

The white is getting boring to me. Really would like to find a hunter green pearlcoat in good condition.

We bought our 97XJ three years ago. We've spent many hours and $1,200 on the up keep.
Had several issues and found youtube has a fix for most repair for the Cherokee.
I agree with Tfitz on the Mopar parts and have found the Napa Echlin brand is compatible and about 20% less in cost.
We just spent the last weekend repairing a similar problem.
Checked the engine code and found Engine code #12 lost power within 50 cycles and Map sensor#14. And Intake air temp check wiring code. We Cleaned the battery terminal and replaced the sensor. Then did it again. Finally found the wiring harness that crosses the top of the intake manifold to the injectors and manifold/ throttle sensors was laying on the back side of the engine block near the valve cover. Investigated the harness and found all the wires were compressed tight together. I separated them and found week insulation and used a 3M 33 electrical tape and cleaned up the wiring. Its all good, runs great and codes are clear. A tip, when you find an engine code issue you can trace the sensor wire back though the harness to the opposite side of the engine/ sensor. Use a straight pin or needle and penetrate the insulation to the copper wire and you can test continuity from the sensor terminal wire to the straight pin to eliminate or verify your wire is conducting a signal.
We have found this XJ engine had gotten hot enough to glue all the harness wiring where it was close to the engine.
Good luck- Main sensor you may have to replace: CPS (Crank position sensor-located on bell housing), Neutral safety switch- there is a great easy how to rebuild video on bleepinjeep.com.

 

I say keep it! It's clean and it looks like it runs solid. A white and black combo usually turns out nice. It can be your storm trooper.

I do like the forest green ones though, but I don't come across many. If I found one in good shape, I'd probably pick it up.

 

Found this pretty clean 2000 couple of days ago on craigslist and well got another one.. Paid a little to much for it but i'm happy with it. 2000 2WD Sport AW4 with Fog lights and Keyless Entry. I got it with 163300 on the clock. The white XJ is up for sale now.

 

0331 head still on? Be sure to continually monitor if so. Freshen up the cooling system

Sadly yes it still has the 0331 head, i will be redoing the whole cooling system tomorrow. The radiator is in bad shape, so that will be changed asap!

 

What was wrong with the 99?

 

Nothing actually. I just didn't like the color. Sounds silly i know, but if i'm going to invest lots of money into a build i wanted it to be on one i really want.
