Default My first Cherokee Project hopeless

Yesterday I purchased my first Cherokee, it's an 89 automatic 4x4. Let me just start by saying the road to recovery is going to be a long one. The previous owner(s) did a lot of rigging and rewiring (They must of thought they knew something Jeep didn't) When I bought it it had a busted driver side window, Bald 33 in tires, and missing a rear shock. P/O rigged a lift kit that will have to be cut off in the front. Why they thought they needed to weld blocks above the springs I couldn't say. Today I bought 4 used manual door's off a 95 cherokee to replace the electronic ones.

how much lift did it have. the only reason i can think of welding blocks on top of the leaf is for a bump stop when flexing???

Not more than 3in. They welded a round spacer instead of getting taller springs

not anything major, after I get the Ignition issue worked out, there is a constant hot just spliced into the wire going to the key switch where they put a another steering column in. Get a proper lift kit and a gasket kit for the engine it will be headed in the right direction.

My PO did the same thing with mine. One of his selling points was informing me that he "fixed" the fog lights but cutting the wires. That way I wouldn't have to deal with it.

Good luck, I had to rewire a huge amount under my dash but things are mostly working now.

project hopeless has been coming to my house everyday since he got it and we are slowly figuring this thing out we got the 95 manual doors on, put a filter box on it since the PO thought he would re-engineer it with dryer hose, put a set of 30x9.50s on it so the he wouldnt have to deal with the the bald 33s, put a new drivers side fender on it, and next is to pull the rigged lift off and cut some of the rot out of it.

Wow, you gotta post some pics of the rigging. I've seen some crazy stuff, always amazes me. Just gotta wonder what people are thinking.

My Heep didn't have a working heater when I got it. So put a Blower motor in and it wouldn't turn on, started tearing into the switch, and realized the PO took the power wire for the switch and used it for the ghetto radio he installed, haha.

Good luck with restoring it to be a good wheeler. I rebuilt from the frame up a 95 chevy k1500 (love that body style). After taking it from a POS to a head turner, i wuldnt hesitate to do it again to another vehcile just because of the pure happiness and satisfaction it gives you when you take someones trash and make it a prized possesion!
