Excited to start
Looking forward to start fixing up a 1993 4-door cherokee, manual, that my brother in law gave me. It has been sitting in there yard covered up for about 6 years. Looks to be in decent shape. I am sure that I will need advise on this project from you experts. It is all stock and it is the country model. My son and I want to fix it up for some light four wheeling.

Welcome to CF! You're definitely in the right place and there are several people here working on their XJ's with their son's.
Post up some pix of that thing when you can. 6 years under a cover in Cali? Can't be too bad.

Yes, it looks in good shape, The belt broke and he never fixed it since that happened. Here's to hoping the engine will restart after sitting that long. I will post a few pics once I pick it up next week.

Here we go
Well got the jeep and first off it is an automatic rather than a manual, that kind of bummed me out. Oh well. Got it home and it started on the second try with a new battery. Ran rough and than threw the belt off. Water pump was hard to turn so I replaced that and the alternater while it was easy to get to. I will tune it up next and find the exhaust leak. Looks like it might have some electrical issues too, but one issue at a time.
Thanks for all the welcome notes,
BJ

Clean and check all of your grounds and connections. My XJ sat for over 10 years before I got it running again. Had multiple electric issues that were all cleared up but one, just by cleaning and checking. I ended up only replacing a front marker light socket. Nice score! And welcome to the forum
