Picked up a factory gas tank skid this morning. Going to install the track bar in an hour or so. Then I'll install the skid if I feel like it. Needs some paint first...

Well, after driving it around a little bit, I've noticed that it sure makes a weird noise when accelerating aggressively from a stop. Sounds like something is slipping or grinding. Only does it when its in drive, not in neutral. Not quite sure what to check. All the fluids are fine. Ugh.

Since my last post, I've tightened the torque converter bolts and that seemed to have fixed the strange noise.
And this weekend is when I plan to tackle the HackNTap install and TCase swap! Ready to get this thing wheelable. The weather has turned into perfect wheeling weather.

I've got a hackntap to do on mine as well. I have the 242 tcase, but I'm pretty sure they are the same. I got everything sitting in the garage (except the new ujoints i need, waiting on paycheck on Wednesday).
I keep thinking I might see this thing on the road...but I never have. Looks great!!

Thanks!
Yeah. Hardest part was getting the inspection plate off, but even then it was easier than 97% of everything else haha
I use to drive this thing EVERYWHERE but since I have my truck now, it gets to sit there and not gain miles. I miss driving it though. Ill definitely be driving it more after the tcase swap.
Yeah. They aren't a bad price and they ride great.

Didn't work out. Apparently there are some differences between the main shafts in the '91 NP242 and the '99 NP242. I believe the length of the splines on the shaft are different.
Discovered this problem after we cut and tap the '99 242, pulled the old 242, and swapped tail housings. A very disappointing day.
The plan at the moment is to crack open both cases and just swap main shafts, and cut and tap again. If I can find a shop to do that for CHEAP, I'll do that. Otherwise, I'm pressed for time and probably won't have it done until later this week or next week.
Here is the outcome:

And for reference as to what its suppose to look like:
