Quote: I have a welder maybe you should have brought it home Friday when you were here? Also I saw the strap and thought it looked very familiar. Idk why you were using a strap in that manner that's unsafe. Lol.
My jeep wasn't my priority Friday night. Sorry for being selfish.

You should just feel free to purchase a little lift and some greater tires. You know you'll need to finally in any case.

Today I was in a hurry so not a lot of pics...and I used the craptastic cell phone.

Pallet the motor came on.

Old motor. Other than the oil pan and a handful of sensors, not much else I need from it.

New motor. This one has a distributor which will be going away. The wires and cap appear "new".

Messy workbench is messy. The bag hanging from vice is collecting fasteners. I think I got a surprise on the valve cover for you

Another view of the mess.

Overlay the "new" motor gasket over the old. We can see the exhaust ports are different. I am hoping there is enough meat on the exhaust port to open this up....we'll see. I know there is a plate rumored to be used to convert headers from 00-01 to the 99 style head but not seen it. Yet.

Bunch of bolts.

Same bag of bolts, another angle.

Another angle, of the same bag of bolts.

Bolts, from another angle.

Bolts, getting eye level with them.

Well the trans/transfer case and cross member has fallen, it was all on the floor when I got out there this am. Whoops.

Shot of the new to me engine on the stand since I needed the hoist to raise the trans n stuff back up.

During my explorations today, I discovered the wrench set I scored on black friday is of poor quality. The top wrench is from another set, and has no clearance issues. The one below is fat and doesn't fit in tight spots.

The PN to avoid...

Damned workbench is a pig sty...

Got the trans back up and pushed this outside for washing.

Cardboard under front.

Before, driver's side.

Before, cowl area.

Before, passenger side

Before, axle and stuff.

Achoo!

Some foam dripping. I rinsed this will a small garden sprayer and hot water to gently rinse the crud out. It isn't going to be like OMG clean, but will be much cleaner. I blew most of the water off with my leaf blower.

After shot

Passenger, afterwards.

Cowl area.

Axle area.

Driver's side. Those brake lines don't look so swell

Empty garage.

Time to sweep the floor.

Per request, more bolt pics.

Back to the motor. Time to remove the oil pan.

Pan off.

Another view.

Another view.

One with a flash. Yeah, doesn't look like its ever seen synthetic

That orange strap again....funny story, as I was rolling the motor over on the stand one of the bolts popped out and everything shifted. Ok, not funny. I needed to clean my drawers afterwards.

And the pan bolts.

Rear seal.

Rear cap.

Neighbor's German Shepard leaving. She is really skittish and evidently camera shy.

Seal coming out. Note: I loosened 4 of the caps from the back to get this sucker to slide out easy.

Old seal.

New seal going in.

It was getting cold, here is a pic of the pan on, what you don't see is I forgot to put that main support bracket on Off comes the pan again!

Ok, this time it's done right.

The old motor. Hard to see, but that's bearings and stuff in the oil. The pan I kiped from this had a lot of that crap in the bottom of it. Nothing some brake parts cleaner and a rag can't fix

Did the engine bay again.

Today I cleaned up the block with a brush and brake parts cleaner.

A lot of shizz in the ports. Note: the exhaust gasket is considerably larger than the port openings.

Another angle.

Some PPE before we go to down with the wire wheel. I don't want to be breathing that shizz.

After wire wheel and gasket scrapping, I laid the gasket I bought over the head. It looks like I bought the wrong one

Yep, for sure the wrong one.

So between the wrong gasket and missing my alternator bolt, that puts the brakes on working on the engine for now, so let's work on something else.

Back to the headlights.

Hella bulbs and isopropyl alcohol. I always drench my bulbs before I install them. Never touch the glass.

How much I drench them. I tried to get a shot of the bulb but it wasn't happening.

Bulbs seated.

The screws that hold the housings in.

Earlier if you remember, I made mention of putting something in the plugs as the relay harness is not weather friendly. Here is some smutz I'll put in there.

Applied into socket.

In with the lights. I am going to leave the bezels off until I get a chance to aim them. The amber turn signals appear like they are going to fall out.

Since I was at a stand still on the motor, I cleaned up the work bench a little bit.

Currently the hatch is held up with the vice grips mod.

A shot inside.

New struts in.

Still smells like dog and smoke so I hit the headliner with this stuff. It smells like Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo and the smell brought back childhood memories.

While we are back here, let's take this off and fix it.

This stuff came in on Friday. The wife said she needed a cd player (what for? she doesn't listen to cd's) and also demanded that the radio works. Rumor has it the shallow mounts will fit in the front door with very little work. These are 6-1/2" over the stocker 5-1/4". I also found a 4ch amp in the garage so now need to see if I got power wire. Should be a decent upgrade over the stock garbage.

That's it for now, I need to run some errands to move forward on the motor and am feeling tired.

I heard if you leave a big bowl of white vinegar it'll soak up all smells.

Pics work great on my computer. I've never seen so many pics in a build thread for awhile.

Great job.

There's probably too many for the mobile app to handle then lol. I just see tons of broken image boxes.
