i installed air shocks. they go in place of conventional shocks. My rear was dangerously sagging in my 89 i heard awful sounds the rear tires would smack the wheel mouldings if i hit a bump with people in the car..

inflated to 120psi the back sits about an inch higher than the back. 70$ shipped on ebay and it rides great. Smoother than before with the stock setup. Well worth it in my opinion and a good alternative. air up for height air down for nuetral, air empty rides like stock

Ok, so today, while at the garage (for those that didnt realize I work at a performance shop in my off time as the POPO) replacing the intake gasket, i decided to climp under the rear of the jeep to see why it is sooooo low.

I remembered reading on here the stock ride measurements for the Cherokee which were 17.5" up front and 17" in the rear from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the flare.... well the front was spot on.... the rear however came in at 15"

A closer look at the leaf springs showed they were OVER the rear axel and in the shape of an upside down "U".

Are they supposed to be on top of the rear axel tubes???

Any insight? the JEEP thing is still new ground for me....

Played out leaf springs... not uncommon. This is one of the reasons why most of us opt for a full leafpack replacement vs an AAL (add-a-leaf). The AAL will eventually sag down due to the structural loss of the OEM springs.

If you decide to lift this for the GF you can just replace with a fullpack. Or if you decide to keep a stock ride height you can order a HD replacement pack from a place like www.quadratec.com.

Yes, XJ's are spring over design.

Ok, which one is the $25 option to bring it back up 2" for now so that I can have more time to convine her on a decent lift.

the $25 dollars a piece option would be finding a junkyard jeep and taking the non sagging leaf springs off it and swapping them onto yours.

thats perfect. I dont have to worry about labor, since I will manage to get it done at the shop.... now to find some non-relaxed leaf springs....
