Miss POPO8 build thread

So as some of you know, my g/f (Miss POPO) and I purchased a 91 cherokee. It has 161,000 miles on it and is mechanically sound.

It appears the previous owner has replaced all of the shocks etc, however the rear sags. It has 17" wheels on it with low profile tires. I want to replace the tires with something a lil meatier (I know 17s will be expensive)

Either way, I dont think I can get alot under the rear end right now. Im wondering if there is an easy or simple fix to the rear sagging issue. ( a lift to the entire jeep is not an option right now, till I convince her).

Can I do an add-a-leaf to raise the *** end up? I need about 2 inches to level out the jeep, or maybe a lil less. I would like the vehicle level or slightly raked.

ANy advice asap would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance...

FYI with all that we went over on the jeep, we never checked to see if it was lowered or if its just sagging...

Stick your head under there and get a real good look at the rear leaf springs. Do they have any arch left to them, or are they flat? Couple cheap ways to lift it an inch or two in the rear is to add another XJ leaf to your existing leaf pack, or do an extended shackle. A 2" extended rear shackle should net you about 1" lift.

If you go with shackles just make sure to paint them pink. :thumbup1:

Thats a good idea. Just not sure if they will be just as saggy. My thoughts were to strengthen whats on ours, that way we at least know where we are starting.

This goes along with what I was referring to with adding another leaf out of another XJ pack. If you do a search for "bastard pack" you'll see lots threads on getting an additional couple inches in the rear by doing this. OR, if you find a clunkers XJ with good condition packs in it that you can pick up cheap it'd be an easy swap.

I refuese to take pics till its cleaned up. and with the paint thats on it, it actually flaked off the wheel flares, so I want to sand them all down and hit them with some black bedlinner to give it a more rugged look, rather than the "street cruiser" look it has all monochromatic...
