Well unless there is something inside the gas tank of these XJs that will prevent that. I know from personal experience vehicles I have owned I did have people take gas from them. I have two keys to the cap one of which will be separate location then my main set of keys. That way if I ever do loose the key I'll have another way. I always keep my vehicles topped off with gas though so I hardly ever run to the station last minute. Plan ahead!

Unless I'm missing something I don't ever see myself having an issue be able to get into my tank. Living up here in PNW there is some crazies everywhere and I never trust anyone.

Locking cap is not there worse nightmare it will be if I ever catch them in the action

Yes they do... They have a caged checkball in case of roll overs and there is no way to get a hose past it. I recently tested my checkball and it actually worked quite well. lol

Thanks for your advice as always! I did not realize that so hopefully someone else will learn from this too. I guess I'm just overkill now lol

No you are good... Like I say you don't want anyone putting anything "into" your tank either. But I thought it would be good information for when you try to shove a hose down in there for your own reasons like if a fuel pump needs to be changed and then start cussing and wondering why you cant. Ask me how I know... lol

Early Friday home from work and while the kids were still at school, what did I do? I don't have any photos because it didn't really deem necessary for photos. I think everyone can understand without.

So I think I started out in my head about five things I wanted to work on and ended up doing just some cleaning up more than anything.

Started with roof rack old lights were not working up there and previous owner ran some hack job wiring through roof which come to find out caused a minor leak. I tore off old lights ripped out wiring and will grind down ****ty patch job tomorrow and seal it up.

Next order of business led me inside, I tore out center console which took some finagling to get it out, putting vehicle in drive, engaging 4x4 shifter and all sorts of cuss words and I got it out. Now the carpet that was under there is gone and ready for some wire wheel/rusteolum paint this weekend followed by bedliner.

While I was at it I took off the moulding along the front windshield drivers door exposing windshield channel. Looks like I found my culprit leak. Windshield seal in lower corner was wet which meant it was coming down into drivers side floor. So as much as it sucks I found a mobile glass shop that quoted me $235 with install and new glass, I expect that to go in the beginning of February.

Hopefully that solves my leak, as for the passenger side, I watched a couple videos the other day about leaks. Turns out there is a rubber grommet for the antenna that comes through inner fender area near door. Well just like the video showed, mine was not fully seated and sealed so I fixed that. I think windshield leaks in that very same spot so again new windshield hopefully and should solved my water leak.

Under the dash along firewall was a rubber/foam padding not really sure why its there but I think all XJs have it. Mine went bye bye because it was cracked and soaked with water anyhow. That allowed me to dry things and apply rustoleum paint up there ready for more bedliner.

oh I removed spare tire off roof rack as well it was just being exposed to the weather for who knows how long. The tire is brand new has the nipples like things on it so I opted to just take it down for now since I don't really drive jeep.

Tomorrow I will go visit wristwiter and pickup another tan door for drivers side and swap my old passenger one back onto his jeep. Need to get that job done so he can work on getting that down to the shop and collect some money for scraps.

That is all for now, a lot going on this weekend not jeep related so may not get a lot done. Wife and kids come first so need to pay them some attention before anything.

Thanks Dan again, got me the drivers side door hopefully will go on tomorrow. Also, thank you for OE roof rack I'm looking forward to putting that back on and seal off any roof leaks from PO hack job.

Photos maybe tomorrow or after all is done. Happy Jeepin everyone this weekend!

Finally got to reading up on your build. Great job and good find! Looking forward to following you as you build her up to your likes. I don't have any floor damage, but would like to change out the carpet for sure. 30 year old XJ definitely has it's spills and stains. Not sure if I want to go fresh carpet or just have it sprayed with LineX. All is just preference of course. But first I must handle drive train and performance issues. Keep up the good work!
And, Thank You for Your Service!!

Thanks! That is why I decided to just tear out my carpet well one of the few reasons. Stains and spills that were beyond cleaning. Water damage and then of course the dreaded rust forming, rotting out my floors. Since the carpet was removed I was able to find or hopefully source the leaks to the windshield. The way I park my Jeep at the house has proven to show little to know leak. Which leads me to believe the water is just running off the vehicle when it rains. Either way it is a win for me until windshield is replaced.

I ended up doing bed liner on my floors and I like it like that. If I were able to get the leaks all solved I could even just put carpet back in it but with it being a off road vehicle I almost see no point because the carpet will just get destroyed again.

Keep up the good work on your build!

Not much done the past couple days! Duty calls for me to sleep onboard and be on the Navy ship for 24 hours. So I will get home today but probably do nothing with the Jeep. I did order up some LED Mounts for the pillars as I already had CREE LED Lights 2x4" to do something with but had no idea. Thanks Kevin for instilling the idea after I saw your light bar!! LOL.

Question for those that may know. The Pioneer model was equiped with a CB already right? Maybe others around the earlier years but it appears mine was factory setup that way. I still have a bracket mounted between my visors that appears to be factory that would house a CB, plus the antenna mount located on the body just before the rear hatch. Lastly I found a switch on the arm rest/center console just before the storage flip up arm pad that is factory but have no idea what that goes to. I do know it had a positive and negative wires attached to it when I removed the center console. Any ideas? If the wiring is still intact for CB it will help setting up my new one. And that switch I had no idea what it was for.

One more what is the transmission button on the dash used for. Something for comfort or something to that matter?

They have some funny stuff... Maybe you know why, but my Daughter did 5 years in the Navy as a Corpsman. Her first station was at China Lake. She was telling me that being stationed there was considered as "Ship Duty". She tried to explain one time that it had something to do with the facility having or not having a galley. lol I may have misunderstood what she was trying to share but for some reason it was considered ship duty rather than shore duty.

Well the only thing I can see with not having a Galley would be she would get paid for food to BAS is what they call it to compensate for the fact that she did not have a Galley to eat at and needed to pay for food. Not all locations do this so I never understood it either. Like I get BAS now but because I'm on the ship they basically pay me and then take it back and charge me each month for the food I eat. As for ship duty or sea duty type she was referring to I'm not sure.

In most cases it is based on the mission at that location. Like for me as a Master At Arms there are locations that I can go to that seem like shore duty but are considered Sea Duty/Ship Duty. Maybe that was one of them based on that base being a mobilized unit of some kind but perhaps never got mobilized. Like I said as for the galley is concerned I'm not really sure why that would be a factor. Interesting!

Thanks for sharing that! I will have to ask her to explain it again. But that sounds right. It had to do with the China Lake reserve and how it was classified. I know one thing... I can't get one thing out of her about her stay there...

But she went to Naples after that and she does share that experience. Apparently all she did the whole time she was there was help deliver military babies. She said the halls were full of women having babies because they didn't have enough rooms to put them into. She said "These guys are making a LOT of babies!". lol

When was she in Naples? We were stationed out there from 2009-2012. Two of my girls were born in that Hospital so it would be crazy cool if your daughter happen to have been there during that time.

Something in the water out there or wine lol. My wife and I were actually having troubles up until we went there and people warned us something in the water. Sure enough we left with two extra kids then we started with.
