Default Father & Son 99XJ Build

Well ever since my father started riding with me in my xj he has gotten the bug. So recently he purchased a 99 4dr sport with the intent to build it up to be a trail rig. Plan to be doing the suspension and drivetrain buildup over the winter and take it out on a shake down run in the spring.

I will say its good to finally find a common ground to connect with my father on a higher level. Even if it took all the way into my late twenties lol. Hes not much of a computer person so i plan to just document the build here for those interested.

When we brought it home

Glad you and your Dad found something in common. Congrats! Twisting wrenches and cutting metal bring a lot of fathers and sons together. Subscribed.

Yes took till i was in my late twenties to find something we both truly liked. He has helped wrench on mine some and the last two trips that he went with me got him hooked. Its good bonding time and i hope to do same with my kids when they get older.

Why going so tall?

I guess it is largely an opinion thing, and I've just always been a low-cog kind of guy, but either way - this one looks like it'll be good! Sub'd.

What speakers did you use? I want 6 1/2" speakers but heard some need you to modify the door panel.

Kudos for wrenching with your pops. Been helping my dad since I was a kid. Great times.

To clear larger obstacles and tires.Low cog wont get you anywhere around here especially in an xj.

Pioneer not sure on the model number but its the cheapest pair you can buy from crutchfield when you input your vehicle for fitment. All you have to do is drill new holes. Also put 6.5s in the roof soundbar as well.

Well after finding some leaks on the seams of the radiator we decided to replace the radiator and the rest of the cooling system. So new radiator, water pump, fan clutch, thermostats and hoses should do the trick. Due to oreily auto parts having freight issues we were unable to put it all back together today. Also since everything was out of the way we decided to go ahead and throw in the steering box spacer upgrade from IRO. Was one of the first few to get this part from them. Have one to throw on my jeep as well. On a good not we shoul dbe starting on the suspension tear down as soon as we get the cooling system buttoned up.
