Cummins swap
Looking for some insight on my build. I have a 97 that I just got and I'm beefing up the Frame and swapping axles out but I do not know what kind of axle I should get. Any ideas??? Thanks

you arent the first to say this and you wont be the last no one ever follows through an xj is not a good platform for this swap i have met guys who have done 4bt swaps on wranglers and they regret because its a heavy dog motor and there is no way your shoehorning a 6bt in a wrangler or xj...
best bet for an xj is a tdi or mercedes diesel as for axles it all depends on what your doing with the jeep..

Yeah the 4bt is 700lbs same weight as a big block chevy. The vw diesels are lighter and make good enough power.Or go ls they are light make great power and getting cheap if you get a 5.3.

The 5.3 makes 285 and 295 hp and 325 to 335 foot pounds of torque depending the year.If that's not enough it can be built up to close to 500hp with bolt on parts.
The stock 4.0 in the jeeps made like 190hp and 225 foot pounds of torque.

What year cherokee are you working on? If it's a full size cherokee I see know reason you couldn't pull off a 6bt...I seen one in a cj7 it was truly impressive!
