Hey everyone, im new to the forums
I've done quite a bit of searching around and have come back with some mixed answers. A week or two ago i was driving from Flagstaff to Phoenix and I lost 5th gear. I was able to make it to Phoenix on 4 gears, at which point I drained the tranny and used a magnet to fish out as many broken chunks of gear as I could. I was able to make it back to Flagstaff on 4 gears but the tranny is getting worse and I know it needs to be replaced asap. I want to switch to the AX15 and ive been trying to figure out exactly what I am gonna need to make the swap. From what ive been reading all I think i need are the ax15 and it's 23 spline output shaft? Ive also read that different bearings might be required and sometimes a different length drive shaft?
Ive got an 88 Cherokee Pioneer with a BA10-5 and the NP231 Tcase
I want to go into this swap as prepared as possible so any more info helps, thanks!

First find out what ax15 you will find and we'll go from there...
Wether its internal Slave or external they all have differences....but yes ax15s do have 23spline ends...
There shouldn't be much of a difference for your driveshafts...

What would be easier/more beneficial to swap, the ax-15 with Internal Slave or External?
Ive never done a transmission swap before

Most guys prefer external slave because internal slave cylinders constantly go out due to a big amount of heat and you have drop the whole transmission to change it....
External slave is out side the bell housing and can swap with in minutes....

Everything that's attached to the transmission....clutch fork, clutch fork clip, master cylinder attach to slave cylinder, you can toss out the throw out bearing, the brackets and linkage for the transfer case, the front driveshaft for a spare(if it's for an Xj)....
If you have enough for the transfer case take that along to...
