Yes I know they recommend it but I did not on my tj and have had no issues. Once bolted and torque there is nowhere they can go. Been on there 7 months or so. I have read write ups that have been done both ways.

Update some of the progress I have made the past couple days.
Got the knuckles drilled and sleeves installed to run tierod on the top. Got one rotor drilled.

Thx. Now I need to get the calipers and decide on quality of pads I want to use, order up some 1 in spacers. Getting close.

finnaly got the last of the brake parts to finish the Wj brake upgrade. If all goes as planned i shound be able to have it moving again tonight. Name:  jeep.jpg

The brake upgrade is done and works great. Drove to work and I think the TPS is going out. Drove crazy. I guess I will try to limp it home and see what's up.

Just read your entire build. Awesome jeep and good choice on color! I have a white xj as well but mine is nowhere close to yours! I'm in Tucson so your not that far from. I need to learn how to weld. Lol hopefully one day mine will be half as badass as yours! Keep up the great work ☺
