Ok here we go finally got everything together to install. this is a D60 out of a 1967 F100 heavy half according to Dana Spicer on B.O.M. archives. it is about 1.5 to 2 in wider so it fits great. Its time to retire the bolt in D35 with detroit and 4.88's it ahs served its time well with no complaints here.
On one of the pics you can se there is not much width differance but a big one in axle tube and center section

all in all a good fit with minimal work my D/S had long spline so it fits with no problem. i did get about 1.5 in in lift out of the swap but i needed it as i carry more crap than i really need. the 36 in spare is in the back along with tools and extra parts and stuff.

at this point its close to 100 degrees or ove dont have a temp gauge close so its cool down time. its all ready to tack and then pull and burn in good and after it cools i will paint it with a coat or 2 or rattle can black hammer. and instal in the am. will update more tomorrow after its finished with luck the brake lines i got today are the right length.

So far the only bad part or downfall to this (at least for me) is i had to scrouge so old nasty steel wheels as the bolt pattern is diff. 5 on 5.5 not 5 on 4.5 which i would prefer as i have two set of wheels for this rig. i have found that moser can make some custom ones with the bolt pattern i want for $350.00 plus shipping. But that will be after the wife calms from this part of it. She wants it all spent on her wrangler! But little does she know i have the currie 30 spline D44 with chromo axles and ctms hiding in the back shop waiting to get install in a few weeks. (if i dont get hurt or mamed in this one). :devil2::devil2:

you know i think i saw one of those in the junkyard. may have to snag me one of those....

bigshow1983 07-17-2011 08:52 PM

would it b possible to do the same thing with 1973-1979 f150 axles???? cuz we got alot of those laying around here and im in the middle restoring a 76 and i got tons of extra parts laying around

MUDRUNNER AZ 07-17-2011 09:56 PM

well i did not get it finish today. had to take care of some honey dos before rain came. but its all welded and painted with brakelines installed. monday i will bolt it back in place, bleed brakes grease d/s and hope the e-brakes cables are a close fit. got lucky on the d/s when i had it build it was with a long spline set up so it will be just fine.

Here it is with all the mounts weld and the axle painted and finally installed.Attachment 57381

I drove it to work and it has a little more get up and go. It now has 5.38 instead of 4.88. So far no leaks or vibes. The only thing left to do is figure out something for the e-brake cables they are too long.
Will update a few more pics later having a computer issue.

I lost 1 in of ground clearance at the diff and the tubes. but gained an 1.5 in over all height which is a good thing cuz it sagged in the rear due to all the stuff i carry and the spare being in the back. I also need to do something with the axles or wheels as you can tell they are different do to the bolt pattern differance. may do moser chromo axles with dual bolt pattern so i can go back to the alum wheels i like better. Attachment 57384
And here is the next stage of the build a D44 by currie it has 30spline chromo axles, ctm joints and lock out hubs. just have not decided on which locker i want to put in it. Thinking selectable. Read some not so good reviews on the ected about not disengaging in the front. I will figure that out soon. :D

Metlic53 07-20-2011 09:14 AM

get an eaton E-locker! Frankz sells them and swears by them!

MUDRUNNER AZ 07-20-2011 09:31 AM

I have been looking at that one too. i like the idea of the ected being L/S untill you hit the switch. but i do not like having issues with hard to steer when the locker wont disengage. Makes rock crawlin a little tough. I have been thinking the e locker or maybe the detroit which i know works great. Is frankz a business online so i can check out their prices? and thx for the input

cdawall 07-20-2011 10:06 AM

The ecteds are terrible every single person I wheel with who has one has killed it

MUDRUNNER AZ 07-20-2011 11:48 AM

Yea thats what i am finding around here also so ected is out:thumbdown:. I have run across a good deal on a lock right but dont rear care for them had one in a toyota and hated it. so i am down to the ox maybe or the e locker, detroit. the detroit is the lower priced of them. i am leaning more that way.

awsome build man. I didn't know the 60 was that close of a swap. Came out great. Any pics of it out while finishing the burning?
