Haha I know they can be.

First XJ I have owned. Brother in law and buddy of mine are big into them and have multiple each.

I am unsure what these go for restored but my brother in law was saying last night this could possibly be the one to do it to. I have a few things to fix that are most likely wiring.

Read window wiper
Power Mirrors
Fog lights
Cruise control

Going to flush all the fluids in the next few days just to do it. I know the previous owner took really good care of it. Every trim piece and badge is present. It will get a small 2" lift or so with some new leaf springs and 31's. Runs and drives fantastic. Will be my daily for a little while.

Unless it's a rare lambo or ferrari, never restore a vehicle to hopefully profit from. It will never happen. You'll ALWAYS spend more money than you'll get back.

Build it to how you want it to be, and call it good. Don't go crazy, decide what you want, what your goal is, and what your budget is. You'll blow out that budget pretty quick, so make sure you keep it small to start with.

My aux fan doesn't turn on unless I turn on the A/C, what triggers it? also On my R.E.M, it shows a much lower temp than the temp gauge does, where do they pull their temps from? (185 vs 210)
engine still doesn't rev over 2000k rpm, but don't want to overheat it when i'm trying to troubleshoot.

Gave up and dropped it off at yet another shop last week. hoping to hear back at some point as to what the issue might be. If they cannot figure it out, maybe I'll buy another one, swap all my new parts over and burn this one to the ground.

Worst case scenario you could swap all the powertrain and electricals from a donor into it!

Maybe. But if I spend the money on a donner with a good powertrain and electrical, I would bet the rest of it would be pretty solid too. We'll see. I want THIS one fixed. I'm paying a few hours of labor rate to get it figured out. It's been there a week now, with no news...

actually heard back from the shop. They are at a total loss. They can see what I see: it revs perfect up to 2000 rpm, then the spark goes to total ****.

I am sorry to see you are still having problems with this. Don't give up yet.

So they are saying that spark / ignition is the issue? I know it was mentioned earlier about the distributor, but has there been any work done to it or has it been replaced?

Yes, it has been replaced. they checked to make sure it was good, I also gave them all the parts I've taken off (I kept them). and it doesn't matter which one they use, it does the same thing.

Just heard from the shop again, Flex plate is out of round slightly, so at low RPMs everything is fine, but as things speed up, the cps just cannot read it correctly. so it stops sending spark. At least that's the only thing they can find. So having them replace the flex plate.

That actually makes sense to me.
Not that I would really know any better. LOL.
I have across threads where it seems people have a problem finding the correct flexplate.
They buy one cause the seller says it fits the application but turns out to be wrong.
Or are just crappy ones to begin with.
At least I think that is what I am reading when I see these thread.
Just something to keep in mind.

Whoa - that makes a lot of logical sense. I never would have even thought of that. Please keep us posted!

The faster it spins, the more it wobbles.

So it really is a "flex" plate.
