AIC's waggy
Difficult troubleshooting is always the worst. I had an 86 BMW 535i that developed a misfire that ended up with all six injectors and the entire wiring harness being replaced. It was at a shop for five months. It sucked. Sorry that's going on with your rig. Hope it all works out. At least the shop owner seems determined to help.

Wow... My big worry is... am I going to have a $3000 bill on a $2000 jeep? I mean... I'm many many thousands into the jeep at this point already. and I have driven it the day I bought it and again to the shop, and I've owned it almost half a year.
Man I hate these hard to diagnose problems. It sounds like you've covered most of the basics. It sounds like your engine is not advancing the timing to allow the engine to rev. If you could get your hands on a cheap distributor to do a test would be great. From your posts it sounds like you've properly adjusted your TPS and I am assuming it is showing proper readings while running, If our Jeeps were closer in age I would give my takeoffs. It's got to be something small since it went from running and driving to not reving above 2K but finding the small thing.

Yeah, I actually have a new distributer in there too, properly clocked, I think the number one thing they are going to do is troubleshoot the high idle first. It's sitting at 900-1000rpm idle. once they figure that out, maybe they will solve the rest.
I did some searches and came across many posts with the same problem. It's amazing how many threads I found and how many people chimed in with the same problem but no final resolutions. I found one thread who had the same issue as yours and they reported bad CPS solved the problem, another was bad PCM, and finally one said to disconnect the alternator wire and see what happens. Any way you cut it you are in limp mode for sure. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. will be watching your thread for the solution.

Don't you have an REM? Maybe Nick would have some ideas? He's still pretty active on Facebook I was just messaging him back and forth a couple days ago. Hope the family issues turn out, too!

I talked with nick, I talked with cruiser, I searched the forums, I replaced every part I had previous replaced... And the fact the shop is struggling means at least it wasn't something easy and dumb.

Wow, crazy... Well hopefully the shop can swap parts and figure it out...sounds like one of those crazy combination of little issues creating a large issue thing. Swap ECU's yet? idk what kind of communications protocols RENIX actually uses but maybe an oscilloscope on the bus could figure out if it's one of those weird communication issues, remove all modules and sensors that don't contribute to the engine running and slowly add things back until it fails?

Don't know how many other wagoneers are in your area, but in my area? This one. I just have a lot of other stuff going on right now, and I need to not stress about it, and pick it back up after I have some time to think about it.

spoke to the shop today, and this is what they said (more or less)
They think it's a fuel problem, because if they feed it gas (they didn't say how) they could rev it all day. but running off just the fuel from the tank, it cuts out. They have already tried new fuel injectors, and wanted to try another fuel pump... BUT I have replaced the fuel filter, Fuel pump (2x each with brand new quality parts), and fuel injectors prior to dropping it off. Could there be some sort of restriction in the line that would cause fuel starvation but only at higher RPMs? Fuel pressure is perfect at idle, and adjusts correctly when vacuum is pulled on the FPR. Wanting to have as much info as possible.
