AEKDB! The Kappa Omega chatper has seen it's fair share of problems as well. We were on trusteeship for a year or so thanks to a falsified police report of hazing. But, we bounced back quickly to become one of the top 5 chapters in the nation the next year. It sure was fun. I still keep in touch with the chapter and stop in from time to time.

So last Friday I made a trip down to Charlotte to pick up some hybrid cage parts. I got the top hat, interior b pillar and a light bar mount. I'm not going to use the light bar mount but I'm sure I'll find another use for it somewhere else. Tonight I will start getting the B pillar cut and welded so that I can bolt it to the top hat. The plan is to sandwich the roof between two 1/4" plates. The bottom of the B pillar just so happens to fall on the leg for my sliders so I think I'll just drill through the floor and weld it to that leg which will tie it into the frame. Then all that's left is to bend up some exterior A pillars and an interior D pillar. I will be bracing between the B and D pillars on the inside as well. I'm hoping to have the B pillar installed by Friday and then have the rest of it done by the end of November as I will be traveling the next 3-4 weekends.

Well I got the B pillar in 85% last night. Just have to finish drilling holes for the bolts that will be used to sandwich the roof between the B pillar and roof. Then have to drill the bottom holes that will tie the B pillar into the sliders.

I've been slacking lately. Went to the Uwharrie Jamboree this past weekend. Drove the jeep out there with most of the interior still out and the B pillar just standing itself up. Didn't do any trail driving. Instead I worked with one of the local clubs and helped with the event.
I did however score a 12 bolt H1 wheel with a good 37" tire and rubber runflat for $20. Now I'm on the hunt for 4 more cheap H1 wheels so that I can recenter them. I also plan to order some TWF PVC inserts so that I can ditch the 30lb runflats. Anyone have any experience with these?
There is also an event next year called the 36 Hours of Uwharrie. It's a 3 day event that will encompass trail driving, canoeing, skeet shooting, winch challenges, hi-lift challenges and much more. A buddy and I are heavily considering entering for this event.

Well the jeep has been put on the back burner for a little bit. I'm currently building a YJ for a customer with a buddy of mine. Hopefully that will be out of the shop by this weekend. Then we will be putting new gears in the rear of an XJ. Once that is complete, the shop will be open for me to pull back in and hopefully finish up this cage.
I also scored some new wheels and tires. I picked up 5 12 bolt H1 wheels and 5 BFG Baja tires with 90% tread for a killer deal. I will be doing a trial run on recentering with one of these wheels. Depending on how that comes out will determine if I attempt to do all of them on my own or pay someone else to do it. Right now all 5 wheels and tires are stored in my apartment and let me say, they do take up quite a bit of space in the little place I call home for now.

After finishing the YJ and rebuilding an axle, I finally had some free time. I went out to Uwharrie for a work day and after we hauled rock for a couple hours we did some light wheeling. After driving up on the rock in the pics, I have determined that the Ford radius arms have a lot more binding in them than I anticipated. This isn't a terrible thing but they do not flex anywhere near as much as my old 3 link did. I'm now thinking about possibly wristing the passenger arm to alleviate this problem.

After wheeling it, it was back to work on the cage. I got the top hat welded up and bolted to the interior B pillar. Now all that is left are the A pillars and the D pillar. I need to go get more tube to make these. There is a larger gap that what I wanted between the brow and the top of the windshield. I'm gonna use this space to mount a 40" light bar. I've never been the biggest fan of large light bars but I need something to fill this gap. Probably just gonna go with an Amazon special for under $75 and hope it works. The pic of the front is slightly exaggerated due to the angle I took the picture at. It's only about a 2" gap.

Hopefully we can plan a trip in the spring. I should be able to arrange a weekend or get time off work if need be. I would go this Saturday, but I'm working OT to make some much needed Christmas money...
