Just a bunch of random activity today...

Did some running around today and stopped at our local pick n' pull... Found a pair of factory-original fog light assemblies. One was rusted through so I just took the lens, but the other is salvageable.

I also snuck down to a coin-op truck wash and went over my engine with the pressure wand and got about 90% of the schmoo off the outside.

Stripped down the intake for cleaning...

Also found a good fan shroud to replace the broken one.

would a newer 4.0L intake fit on? that one looks like the air flow is horrid.

I haven't researched yet... Going to look into it at some point but not sure about using the later throttle body and its TPS/IAC with the Renix management system.

So time really does fly when other things take priority... but hopefully I can get rolling on this thing again. First, out with the old...

After about two weeks of soaking the cylinders in penetrant... I still managed to get #1's rod hopelessly lodged against the crank journal and wound up pulling the motor with the torque converter still attached... as much as I hated to. Obviously if I'd have known I was going to be away from this thing for so long I'd have left the head on it.

The carnage inside the pan

#1 extracted from the block for gawking purposes

The non-factory direct-to-atmosphere crankcase ventilation port helped to serve as a crank stop while I removed torque converter bolts.

At some point I lost interest in taking pictures, but I've got the replacement engine prepped up with all new gaskets top to bottom (inside of the crankcase looks good,) replaced timing set, etc.

I need to get replacement hardware for the top transmission-to-engine e-torx garbage, find out how the flexplate goes on the crank and I'll be ready to slide it in. All downhill from that point, hopefully.

Subbed. Awesome, glad you decided against parting it.
