Sorry, I missed this post. SWVa4W, which is the local club that keeps Potts Mountain maintained and cared for, had our annual "trail clean-up" run today.

Join up over on SWVa4W, its only $25 a year and we do a whole lot to keep VA best public trail open. And trust me, thats not an easy job these days with the fire and such.

Just a friendly note to my fellow doorless xj'ers
my bud and i were up in floyd last night stopped at a gas station when super trooper pulled up to inform me that doorless is illegal in va?
apparently since they came with doors they have to have them...kinda a pain in the ***, especially since i cant even afford a damn ticket if i get one...

anyways, just curious because ive driven for like 2 months, had cops ride my ***, park next to me, all sorts of stuff, and never told me anything or pulled me over....just an odd thing in my opinion but wanted to warn you guys as well...

It's just the states finest. Any local cop, like Roanoke county, city, boretourt sheriffs, etc. won't give you no trouble but state will ride your *** and give tickets for almost any unreasonable modification. Like tinted tail lights, aftermarket headlights, doorless, too wide rim and tires, too high lift. Cause anything outa factory is considered "illegal". If that's the case, and rim, and tire not stock is illegal, Any exhaust is illegal, ANYTHING that didn't come from factory is not aloud. Some complete BS if you ask me. I am also doorless in Roanoke and I've had everything from city cops, to county, to even Salem cops pull up beside ,me. Even pumped gas beside a roanoke county cop and never said nothing. They eye ball the heck outa me, but never give no trouble. F YOU Virginia state police

Well I don't get it. Wranglers come with doors but are allowed to remove them, so why not XJ's or a damn cadillac for that matter, as long as your seat belt is on, it shouldn't be a issue.

I will talk with some of my LEO friends and see what they say.

Dylan, take it easy on the state guys, they have a hard life, it makes them cranky. offer to buy them a coffee and thank them for their advice. Those guys drive hundreds of miles a day working some of the most horrific wrecks youve ever seen, deal with a-hole drivers that drive way past the limit and then there is the drunks to deal with. They are understaffed, see their families way too little. It makes them cranky

Use some diplomacy when dealing with them or they will just label you into the "redneck Jeeper" category.

Oh I know, I do my best to respect most any law man. To an a point. But the state troopers are the only ones who really bust "vehicle modifier's" *****. Lol. And yes I know, they are just doing there job, it's what they get paid to do, and most the time they pull us over for a reason, most of the time it being for our own good/safety. I even am family friends with a state trooper, but I swear he's the most chilled out cop I've ever met. They seem to be the only ones who give any trouble. But it's all good. I haven't gotten any tickets yet (besides a speeding ticket a year ago cause I'm a dumb kid who liked to go fast at the time. Haha but it was dropped)....I understand what your sayin trailrider

Doors are legal to remove as long as the vehicle has a floor pan depth of (i believe) 3in minimum to keep object inside vehicle. Sounds like he just wanted to be an ******. A Drive mirror and a rear view is a MUST. I have talked with my stations trooper about this, as I am a state inspector, and wanted to make sure my S.I. license wont be suspended or put on probation just for driving with no doors lol

Not correct. Sort of. Aftermarket is 100% legal as long as if or OE spec/equivalent. Any OE equivalent exhaust is legal. there is nothing wrong with Mineke replacing the rusty exhaust on your moms Accord with shop bent piping and a OE style resonator and muffler. Tho excessively large wheels and tires are illegal. I have rejected Tahoe's with 26's. If a wheel or tire can come in contact with any part of the frame, suspension, or body then it is illegal

EDIT.
Be very thankful we have safety inspection/laws and not emissions. NC is the opposite, They can drive unsafe scary POS on the same road as you but its all good as long its clean out the tail pipe

Well I was told by an officer that any modification out of factory was illegal. And that it was up to the officer to wether they gave you a ticket for the illegal modification/s .... And to the exhaust comment I meant any performance exhaust such as flowmaster, magnaflow, etc is considered illegal (Roanoke county officer told me this) and it was up to the cop if it was to loud or not....but like I said, this is all stuff I've been told face to face with officers from different jurisdictions and I think for the most part there just threats/ warnings

Cops are not know it all's. Especially city and county. That particular officer would make an fool of himself in the courts if he actually enforced what he told you. I'm sure he know better and was simply talking a big game to you friend.
I have spent alot of time in traffic court, mostly due to my days hotroding around in a 450+hp turbo Civic, my on E36 BMW, and Foxbody lol.. Hince the tags CUINQRT(race cars) & NTGULTY(Jeep) lol. Thats all behind me know due to Family and Career. But I have alot traffic law knowledge and I know the State inspection manual well as I read it front to back due to failing the test the first time.

I was curious, and asked a friend who works for the forest service.Apparently a large group of kids in "large trucks" were back there camping/making huge ruts in all of the holes/and shooting firearms. They said due to this group, they will be patroling and enforcing back there, and will be cutting more trees and covering more holes.

Omg. Didn't know it was getting this bad, but every freaking kid in roanoke, botetourt and Salem go to broad run and tear it up....me personally I've never had my jeep on broad run. A gravel road with creek crossings and a couple small holes/ puddles never really interested me. Or is worth my gas. But everyone I know who wheels goes there. I a
Ways tell them there dumb and gonna get themselves in trouble.....I only wheel my own private land, and my friends private land...there was another spot up on 604 just behind the truck stop. On rt.11 and it's under heavy patrol cause it's got momsterous mud holes p there and people we come out and slinging my outa there tires on the highway. So it's pretty much done for
