Oh and I need a good set of 31"s. My 235's are just not filling in any space. Too small. Anyone got a set with good tread left on them? They don't need to be on wheels, but if you've got them on Turbines we may become best friends...
Are you running it at the monster truck races? If so, I would remove the front shaft and run the course in 2wd. Your turns will be tighter and your landings will be a lot less twitchy. Bumpstop the hell out of it to keep it from bottoming out.
If you need help in the pits let me know.
A locker in the rear would be awesome. If its a D-35, the aussie might work in the rear, D-30 and D-35 are both 27 spline and the carriers are about the same size. I know of at least one friend tha is using a D-35 locker in his D-30
I think that your gonna find it hard to make that tight turn with the front locked and in 4wd. The rear locker will do more to get you out of the turn than pulling with the front will. Open F/R may be worth leaving in 4wd but with the rear locker, drop the front DS, run it in 4-low for the hole shot. You may explode the T-case but if it doesn't then you will out run all the other junk out there.
Without the front DS connected you will be in "2-low" and the acceleration in that tight course will be hard to beat.
Hey y'all, I think I'm coming up to my mom's in Richlands in about 2 or 3 weekends, are there any places near there to go take a fun ride on Sunday afternoon before I head back to Carolina? Looks like the really good stuff is further up, but lemme know if ya know of any.
Nah, I'm running the cheap truck challenge at Crozet on march 23rd. It looks like there will be 10-15 rigs, starting 2 at a time at 15 second intervals and contact is allowed/encouraged/necessary. The course is tight and somewhat technical. If you wanna see a video of the winning truck you can watch it here: 302 Found
I had def considered ditching the front locker and also thought about running 2wd. Check the video out and let me know what you guys think. I have a feeling 2wd low locked would do just fine...

If you wanna come up with us, we'd love to have you! Its gonna need some work to run(new tranny, motor stuff) so you may get a couple PM's from me as we work through the mechanical/electrical things. One of the guys, Cody(green JK, bed lined sides, 35" pitbull rockers), is a mechanic for firestone but he is fairly green and I imagine we will run into some issues to which we are ignorant. We will prob just unhook the front driveshaft so we can wheel with the locker after the racing is done, I can't wait to wheel something I don't care about damaging and that will be trailered home =-) body shop here we come!!!
I've laways wanted to build a XJ "tuff truck" for the indoor races. I like the tight course and the air you could get off the whoops
Right now most NF trails are closed like Potts Mountain. About all thats left around here is Potts.

XJ's are TOUGH, that is all!
Thanks for the advice, Jon. I figure worst case scenario we run the first heat and the locker holds us back, we can pop it out and replace it with the spider gears and run it open. Winning might not be that important though :-)
For y'all who like to run bobblets , I went today and wow was it rough! After this last weeks heavy rain storm a couple of the already harsh washouts are a good foot deeper in some of them. I got stuck twice but was always able to work myself out. Also acquired some nice scratches/ gouges in the body where i slide into the side of the deepest washout. My window was even with the ground is how deep it was. ...pretty exciting stuff in some places. ...so there's a bobblets update for y'all who like to head out that way occasionally.

I've been during last 2 snow falls we had, so its only been like a week sense my last visit, and it was no where near as bad as what it was today.
The rain we had during the week did a number in it
