Im tyler, just got my first jeep, a red 2001 XJ. Its completely stock except for the new foot boards I just added. Plan on getting more stuff for it. Let me know if your near south central PA, or if you know of any light trails I can test my new jeep out on.

the trims held on with 2 strips of a glue one on top and bottom. all i used was one of them spackle spreading tools (just need something flat). just stick it under the bottom side of the trim and either push hard or tap it with a hammer till you get the entire bottom strip dicconnected. now you could either do the same to the top strip or just use a little muscle and yank it off. you then just have to scrape/peel off any of the existing glue. its extremely simple
PS: when removong excess glue, be very careful of your paint job!

wow your trim has WAY more glue holding it on than mine did. must be the old way they put them on. on mine (2001) there were only two 1/2" strips running along the top edge and the bottom edge of the trim. everywhere else underneath is hollow. that looks like it was a b**** to get off!
