the trans am? 12 bolt moser 3.42. the 4l80e transmission will have trans go rebuilt kit, 3000 stall, and maybe after market input shaft. from what i read the stock input shaft is very beefy, but i also read they break under 500 hp too. my buddy is looking into it he's a transmission builder i'll go by what he thinks.

Okay... that was my fault... The 8.25 is what I wanted to know.
I used to race at Byron... probably long before you were born. Back before all the drama that took place there.
it's the whole axle housing with stock gears and all. i'll get some pic tonite. oh i hate driving to iowa tomorrow. i'll be doing some crawling at my parents yard the grass is dead anyway so i doubt i damage anything.

No.
The available gear ratios from AMC were 3.07,3.31, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56
You could specify any of those ratios when you ordered a Cherokee.
But.. a rule of thumb especially once Chrysler screwed things up, was that there were 'stock' ratios.
6-cyl, auto 3.55
6-cyl, manual 3.07
4-cyl, auto 4.10
4-cyl, manual 4.10
Some will say that the 4-cyl auto had 4.56 'stock'. But... that is a case where the cover needs to be removed and the teeth counted. Because both 4.10 and 4.56 were found. The 'odd' ratios tended to be found more in the AMC Jeeps, with 3.31 being the most rare. It was part of the fuel miser package during the AMC-era or on some California emissions Jeeps. 3.73 was found many times in the towing package on AMC era Jeeps. So finding an XJ Dana 44 the chance of finding a 3.73 is a little higher than just a random D35 axle.
That being said... anytime you deal with AMC, there is no such thing as 'stock'. AMC allowed you to order every single item on a Jeep.
