whats up guys.... its been a while i have been out of pocket. i'm still hanging out but i'm going a different direction for my trail toy. it's not jeep, but it likes to trail with jeeps.
btw i have several jeep parts laying around i need to get rid of so if anyone needs a d35 rear or d30 axle tubes i have them. also have two np 249 transfer cases and one that is in pieces and missing the input shaft planetary set up.. let me know

Hey guys as you know I am planning my jeep build and am thinking of ways to doing my suspension. Last Thur. at Grape Apes I talked with a couple of you about welding my front spiders (i have the older solenoid type that is on a cable that kicks it in and out) but dont really want to do this because its not reversable. So i got to looking at the other options. Other than cost... how is a spartan/aussie locker different than a spool? both from what i can tell "lock" your axles together, and both replace the spiders, and can be taken out if I dont like them. Also they are cheap so if I ever upgrade my axle I dont have alot of money in there. Mini spools are less than 100 bucks while the Spartan/Aussie is around 300. Selectable lockers cost about as much as locking hubs and a Spartan but I dont have that kind of money to throw in there.
With my front axle I can "unlock" the axle and that will allow the one side to turn freely, with either the lunchbox (?) or the spool.
The rear well it would be like having Posi would it matter there which i use?

Well i have the disconnect type on one jeep and a non disconnect on the other. But I will be using the disconnect one. So should i go with:
a. aussie locker - why?
b. the spool - why?
Does the locker do something that I am not finding in my research?

Aussie you can turn easily on street or offroad, spool is just like having the spiders welded and you wont be able to turn it good offroad it will push your frontend unless you have hydro assist that will help but not alot....the lockers disengage when turning and when no power is put to the diff when power is aplied the lock together and they will click when disengaged that is Normal,I had a lockright in my d30 it is similar to Aussie and Spartan lunchbox lockers they are a good bang for the Buck but if you play on rocks you will want to upgrade to chromo inner and outer axle shafts cause stockers wont hold up with a locker and 33-35 inch tires believe me I know by experience as my Jeep group does too lol hope this helps sorry its so long happy new years!

Yeah it does, thanks. Looks like a different Jeep now, especially since I repainted the front. Since having my 2nd child in September, I have been too busy to do anything lol.
I figure over the next 2 months I should have a nice weekend to change the motor in Slug 2.0 and get it back together. May even be able to do the lift combine. and I should have the money by then to pick up some Spartans or Aussies. I will be happy with just the motor swap and back together to make it.
