I stopped by the environment today to look into going ohv with the jeep... I know I won't be able to drive it on road any more, but it would save me the hassle of finding someone to pass it! Derek what your input on the subject?

i think it would be more of a hassle with buying a truck and trailer or trying to find one to borrow when ever you wanna go wheeling... not to mention the costs of all that instead of 4 tires ud have 12, gas for 2 vehicles, registration on 3. Id say just get yours to the point of being able to pass who cares how good it looks

well i dont know if im gonna make it this weekend. Went out to the garage to re-torque all the suspension and load up for this weekend. Once i was done i decided to take it to the car wash, lonebehold it got DW on the way there-let me just say the last time i drove it was from little moab with no swaybar and no steering stabilizer and i didnt even get a hint of DW. Got home and looked at it, the axle side track bar bracket was ripped about half way off the axle. I welded it up again and figured that was the problem, still got DW. i have gone over it all and cant see anything loose or worn. Pisses me off. Tomorrow after work i will tear into it again and try to get it straightened out, if i cant im gonna park the P.O.S. until it sees a new front axle because the current one has given me nothin but problems.

well just from my experiences of having 2 designated off highway rigs here is what i've come up with.

pros:
no matter how hard you beat it, if it gets to the trailer its going home
cheap as heLL to register every yr
save money on not having to insure it
don't have to worry about mudflaps and flairs and all the extra crap.
putting all the extra crap kids need in something bigger than an XJ is always a plus.
don't have to worry about funny jeep highway driving, can cruise at any speed smoothly when its on a trailer

cons.
always have to go back to the trailer(unless your like a few of us who don't care and drive the highway when needed anyway)
more fuel per trip for the tow rig and jeep
some area's its a pain to tow into (unless your not like me adn don't care where you leave the tow rig and trailer for a few days)
if you already don't have, needing the extra expense of buying a truck and trailer.
it costs more now to license a trailer then the rig your putting on it

i'm sure there's more but thats all i got right now

so its a toss up, me i like it better cause i'm hard on my junk. so i know its going home. i would still have mine plated even as it sits if it wasn't for a so called friend screwing me with the state and i was forced to OHV it.

if you do a lot of the point A-B exploring in it than unless you want to buy another expo rig, i say don't do it. me i bought an MJ to explore(anyone wanna buy it ) in since the red XJ is strictly off-road.

so in short, if you like your rig to stay in one piece and not have to work on it as much i say keep it street legal, cause when they are stickered you do dumber shit in them

Without having everthing before ya OHV it will leave ya stranded. Any full size truck will pull it. But the trailer availability is harder. Unless ya know someone with everything that will let ya use it. Yeah its nice when ya break and you don't have to stress about makin it home. There are times I wish I had a street legal rig so I wouldnt have to trailer everywhere. Also don't forget about space at your house. Yeah you can leave the rig on the trailer, but now ya got a truck in the way.

Thanks for all the input guys! I have been flat towing it with the WJ, which doesn't help me if I really get in a bind, but would get it to & from if I went ohv. I'm lookin at it like this, I got a crack to Hell wind shield, no flaps, no flares, no small tires, no exost (cat. back), & no hook up on safety/im! But in the same note the WJ doesn't like pulling... well... anything lol, but lack of cash & an expired plate leaves me debating it!

I know your question was not directed to me Ryan, but I have to agree with Derek & Chandler. Until you got the tow rig in place it seems going OHV would be more of a hassle than anything. I know you've got the towbar setup and the Grand'll pull it, but as Derek stated, you OHV it and your gonna get crazier in what you do in it and the current setup might not work out too well, especially if you have a catastrophic failure in say Moab and need to tow her home over a long distance. Again, just one dummies .02, but felt the need to weigh in.

well now you have another problem, if you sticker it you can no longer flat tow it. the law pretty much states if its an OHV not one tire can touch state highways or interstates.

unless your going to the take back utah rally then you have an open window to drive or ride anything on the states asphalt.

anyone going to the rally to support or hobby BTW?
here's the link http://www.takebackutah.org/

don't worry this is not just a naxja thing

Just thought of something. Technically he could drive an OHV on the roads in Hurricane. But only on the OHV routes

I bet if you fixed the windshield, put on a junk yard exhaust, and threw your mud flaps on (I thought you had some?) I bet you could find somone to pass you......

The people I know that trailor there rig around seam a little harder to convince to go wheeling unless its to moab or some destination, they just give off the vibe of "its so much work for a few hours"

There was a time where my rig never left my trailer. When someone said let's go wheelin. All I had to do was hook up and go.
