i think if the gearing is high enough you can install a spartan without removing the carrier, which would greatly reduce the time on install. with higher gears the pinion is bigger, so the ring gear sits closer to the carrier giving enough room to remove the crosspin while the carrier is installed... i think i can remember reading that somewhere. that's in a dana 30 though

Pull the carrier pop off the ring gear remove cross pin and spider gears, reassemble with locker installed. Simple and easy. I think doing it with the carrier in would make it a pain.

It's not possible in the D30. The center pin isn't held in with a bolt like the 8.25. You have to remove the carrier to tap out the pin holding the center pin in. If that makes sence lol

you can hammer it out with the carrier still in... but i think if i had to do it all again i'd still pull the carrier. the axles aren't hard to pull

i just bought a lincoln 140... i really wanted the 180 but wiring up a new plug and making an extension cord for it, i just didnt want the headache haha. pretty excited though
