Soo 1,600,000 %500=3200 gallons per Prius to get to the USA.

And you need to factor the fact that each Prius will live..... Meh 200k at 45mpg
Also the $7000 battery that needs replaced every 7-10 years........

Also you need to look at how much each container ship can transport, which is a ****load, which is why it makes it worthwhile to ship stuff using this method as opposed to other means. It's not only transporting a handful (relative to the total amount of cargo) of prius batteries, it's taking 15,500 of these bad boys loaded with other **** too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermodal_container
You'd need to divide the oil usage on the container ship by 15,500 and then figure our how many prius batteries fit in each one and then divide that number again by the number of prius batteries in each container to find the cost of oil per each battery. I'm assuming the numbers are slightly closer. But in order to find out if it's really economically/environmentally friendly to drive a prius over a cherokee you also need to factor in the lifetime of the vehicle at 45ish mpg.
Also: To get really accurate you need to calculate the cost of getting the cherokee to the showroom floor in the amount of oil. Manufacturing processes weren't as good 20 years ago as they are now, so I imagine there was also other waste involved.

Yeah, gotta get up at 7am to drive over an hour to Aurora to escort an Ex-soldier. Who also happened to be a member of a club I'm prospecting in, the Patriot Guard Riders.
Anyways, like the modification to my signature?

Don't know. Jeremy just explained how the nickle in the batteries is mined in Canada, then processed in Norway and shipped to Japan. We should ask them to do some TopGear maths!
