Default Who is up for Slick Rock?

Slick Rock is three hours East of Sacramento, California, or about 2.5 hours south of Reno, Nevada. Most people approach the trail from the California side.

To get there, drive up Highway 4 past Bear Valley to Lake Alpine. Turn south off the highway at the west end of Lake Alpine. There are signs for Lake Alpine Campground. The Trail starts off from the Campground below Lake Alpine. Stay to the right as you approach the lake. The trail head is about three quarters of a mile from highway 4. You'll see the well-traveled trail.

The trail follows the pristine Silver Creek. The creek flows over solid granite in some areas. Slick Rock has two major water crossings one about
10" deep and the other via a one lane bridge over Duck Creek. The trail is only about 3 miles long and can be run non-stop in less than two hours if you want to whiz through.

I would like to go around the first weekend in October.

Does this interest anyone?

OK the date has been set at 10/8. There are three campgrounds located around Lake Alpine and one Silvertip located about one mile west of the lake on highway 4 and they are on a first come bases.

if camping, it may be worth it to run slick rock one day, and then something like strawberry, DV, or Niagara that same day and/or Sunday.

Looking at a trail map, if camping, maybe run slick rock and deer valley Saturday, camp at blue lakes, run strawberry and home on Sunday

no problem. let me know what you decide (camp and run other trails, or just slickrock) and I will plan to be there. I am fine with either, but if you want to just run slickrock im going to day trip it.

Default here is the plan

What I would like to do is run Slickrock down from hwy4 then turn around and run it again back to hwy 4.

This would allow people, as Hooper suggested, to come up for the day and just run the trail top to bottom but if someone wanted to stay the night they could run the trail back up too.

The Slickrock trail is rated 5 down and 6 back up so it will give us a little more of a challenge (yeah, OK, not much) traveling it back up.

Then Sunday run the Deer Valley trail from hwy 4 to hwy 88 and go home from there. Someone could even come up for Sunday and run this with us as a day trip too.

There should be something here for everyone.

I am going to run it with 235/75/15's so I should have a blast trying to get through.

I did camp there 7 years ago and if i do remember you are near the water but not camping on the shore but I got there late Friday so maybe all I remember is camping near the lake but there are camp spots on the shore too. That was no help at all. We will see.
