Correct, I have to re install the gauges and jumper the ignition system to test and confirm that hi/low are truly the full/part time lights. If so I will make the new panel. the bottom two on the right were empty so i figured perfect for the lockers. All exterior lights will use illuminated switches.

Battery died on my way home from work. Getting a new one and gonna replace the alternator too. So now my question for you guys is this. What's a good alternator for running yellow or red top. And which do you guys prefer or have heard good things about?? Might as well upgrade all this now since I have to.

EDIT~~After doing some searching around for the last 30-45 mins it seems that this Grand Cherokee Alternator is a good upgrade from stock amp to 136amp and so long as I upgrade my battery cables should handle extra lights, winch and a yellow top Optima battery just fine. Also should fit without any modding.

Greetings everyone. I am new to the forums and wanted to say hello.
I moved to Vegas 4 or so years ago and had to leave my XJs back in Florida. I finally got the wife to go on some trails in my other truck and with friends. She loved it, and now I have the OK to get a new to me XJ and build a streetable trail ride.
For now, I am doing research and waiting on tax return and the right XJ to come available. Have to build a bit different for trails than the mud that I am used to building for.

There is a big difference between a yellow top and red...
Google it and decide which is best for your needs.. I have red, blue and yellow depending on the application.
Alternator depends on your needs and budget...
I have a mean green 160 amp in the yj and a cheaper higher than stock amperage one in the xj, but since I'm adding the capability of a winch front and rear to the xj I am reconsidering my power needs.
If your not going with a lot of amp draw from upgrades, just get a red top and a good replacement alternator from any parts store.
Battery cable upgrade a must also get the headlight harness from the guy in the for sale section.

I will be looking for a 91-95 XJ Cherokee. 4.0L inline 6, 4x4, automatic, power windows and locks, 4 door, PS, and AC. Going to start with as stock and unmolested version as I can get. This way I don't spend time and money undoing what someone else did that might not fit my plans. They are also cheaper when people don't have tons of money sunk into them.

I appreciate the input. I have owned both power and manual windows and lock in a 4 door XJ. I will deal with the minor issues that the power can cause for the daily convenience. I probably run with windows open 80% of the year. Having to go around to each door and roll them up or down every time I enter or leave the vehicle is huge pain. This will be more than just a trail rig. and I am not looking to use it as a crawler. A rig that can handle daily freeway/around town stuff and mild to moderate trails is what I am after. Plus my dogs love to go on rides, and I need the ability to get the windows up quickly is they see something that gets the riled up and excited.
