Well I made a minor **** up last night too while bolting my transmission oil pan back up. I stripped one of the bolt holes. I should've known better than to keep torquing the bolt at an angle.

What are my options? Thread inserts? Re-tapping? What's the best route, and what have any of you guys done in similar situations?

Head gasket is no fun. Thanks all for the welcome. I dug into the cherokee today looking for the water leak I found. and for the crack the block supposedly had. (Leak was from over the bell housing so I thought core plug). After getting in there I found this.

From water pump about 8" back.

Also found my exhaust leak, both rear primaries cracked at weld from main pipe on header. Think I have a lead on new engine so will chase that in the next week or so.

Did the rear brakes today. Brake cylinder, shoes, springs, drums...she works flawlessly. On to the front end I go.

Thanks hector for the help and company...great seeing you man.

Don't know if you've done a head job on. 97-01 jeep before...but the drivers side head bolt closest to the firewall...its a 12 point, has to be 3/8 drive, deep well. I think it's half inch in bolt head size but a 1/2" drive ratchet won't fit. Weird but what I had to deal with when I did my head.

Its tight, but I did get one to fit. I had to pound the firewall back a bit, but I got it to work.

I feel like Robert, I haven't driven my Jeep in a while. Hopefully it starts up on Sunday!

But I bought a house with a bigger garage so now I will have more room to stare at it.

Anyone going to Winter 4x4 Jamboree??

Ya actually I was in the process of doing the head gasket on a 98 I picked up for $200, but then it got hot so I stopped, but all I did was drop the motor mount since I already had it loose and used the same 1/2" 12pt I used in the rest of the drivers side bolts.

Well if anyone saw my post from Sunday and was curious of the outcome, I used a Heli-Coil kit on the stripped tranny pan bolt hole. It worked. Success.
