Yeah its alot easier on a lifted Xj but the Pan will come out without removing the trans. One suggestion I have is to spend the extra coin and get the one piece rubber style gasket dont even try using a cheap cork multi piece one. Beleive me I have attempted it and its no fun getting it back together and finding out the thing leaks and having to do it all over.

Its not that bad, the pan come out easy if you take the steering link off(one castle nut).

There is no 1 piece rear main for the 4.0. At least not to my knowledge, i mean how would you put a 1 piece on? Half of it slides into one bearing cap, and the other half around the crank. Its not even one peice from the factory.

The job is a messy one but its fairly straight forward, dont drop the trans.

x2 It takes quite a bit of pounding... At least mine did (310k miles when I did it, It was obviously the original seal) But once it came out, it was a piece of cake. Just a matter of put it all back right :P
