Not sure which trail it was. Lots of tight switchbacks. I was following my buddy and his $25k rubicon. He didn't smash anything, go figure...

Sounds like the 102, or some call it the switchback trail. Probably happened at the tough spot towards the bottom where you often see broken glass pieces. I am guessing by where the damage is you were headed up hill through the switchbacks. That spot gives a lot of people problems.

I was out there the same day. I saw all the glass on the stump and nearly took out the right rear corner glass. The next 2 trees took out both my mirrors

That stump is definitely on the 197 trail. You can get past it in an XJ but you have to go VERY VERY slow, get the right line and...lol...praying helps. I have seen the pile of rear window and tail light glass you speak of....and everytime I've run that trail, somebody in the group loses a window or tail light housing to that stump. I even have a couple of good gashes in my hatch from the stump. It just doesn't like to let XJs by.

It's all in how you drive. I have been up and down the 197 trail many, many times and have never done worse than a dent in my rear quarterpanel. Of course it probably also helps that my xj is lifted 8" and fully locked sitting on 35" tires.
