Over this last weekend I got the SYE all put in. Very simple job and I didn't even remove the T case, shift linkage or crossmember like the directions that came with it said to do. I did it with the TC still mounted right in place under my Jeep. So, my install was probably even easier than the average Joe's. The only thing in the whole job that had to be pressed were the bearings between the main 4x4 gear and the main shaft. Earlier than 97 231's had these bearings and the later models didn't. With the new output shaft from AA, they are not needed so I pressed them out and slung them in the weeds. The gear went right on the new output shaft perfectly. They do say you need a good set of snap ring pliers and that is a fact!! You will use them alot, too. I did have to adjust the speed O sender twice to get it working right. I also had to tweak my TC shift linkage back into the proper alignment to make it quit binding. It had bent when I installed my TC drop kit a few years back. I also had to grind a little off the plug that comes with the kit to plug the hole where the vacuum sender goes because I didn't cut enough length off of the 4HI and 4LO shift rail. I didn't need the vacuum actuator anymore as I installed solid axles in the front a couple years back so I got rid of all those no longer needed vacuum lines and wires running down to the front axle and back to the TC. It was keeping my TC from shifting into 4LO. Just a little grinding and my TC shifts better and easier than it ever did before when stock or dropped. I also got the JCR Offroad skid plate installed. I dropped the F****** on my thumb and broke it in the process....lol...but after I was able to quit yelling and cussing, I finished the job. Went to the Doc the next day after waking up and finding it so swollen I couldn't even move it and found out it was broke. The skidplate weighs every bit of the 75-85 pounds JCR boasts. Trust me on this when I say so...lol. The thing is absolutely overbuilt. I will never worry about hurting my TC again. Can't wait to play in the rocks again. Branden, Bill, let me know when you guys are going to Evans again. I need to test this thing out. Oh, and speaking of road trips. The SYE got rid of a bad vibe I had going on in the rear that I thought was coming from the front. My Jeep rolls as smooth as glass, now, at all speeds on the road.

a few days ago I picked up a used SYE designed to be used with a front drive shaft... and ready to install (also came with another tcase, minus the front gears... only $60)
changed the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, oil pump gasket, oil filter adapter gaskets... about $60
oil and filter change with Rotella 15w40 around $25
tomorrow it will be getting the under carriage cleaned in preparation for some new control arm brackets being welded in...

One thing I forgot to mention that threw a HUGE wrench into my SYE install. The stock XJ auto tranny front DS I had to put on the rear was about an inch too short fully extended. HOWEVER, my son saved the day. He had hought a front DS from a V-8 ZJ with auto tranny. That DS is about 2.5-3" longer and it fit the rear of my XJ perfectly. I guess my lift is a little more than 6"...because the XJ shaft definitely would not work for me.

I also ran my winch issue to ground, today. People can say what they want about Smittybilt's XRC8000 winch but, mine worked perfectly through 2.5 years of muddy, wet, nasty, snowy, sandy, off angle situations. Other than broken cables and roller fairleads, I'd had no issues with mine...and it was even one of the older slow ones. Well, I finally started having an issue with it just stopping in the middle of a pull or just not doing anything but clicking at me at times. I called up Smittybilt and they had infact stopped selling the winch I bought, a couple of years ago. They had started producing and selling a much improved version of the XRC8000. So many people had issues with the oldr ones that they had sold out of spare parts for them over a year ago. So, there I was with a broken winch and no way to get replacement parts for it from the OEM. What the AWESOME guys at Smittybilt's customer service did for me was sell me one of the newer style, upgraded XRC8000 winches, including a 1 year electronics warranty and lifetime mechanical warranty, for $250 brand new in the box delivered to my front door shipping and all. I figured that was a pretty darn good deal. I'd buy another winch from them tomorrow but...lol...I don't have to because my new Smittybilt winch is built much better and it has an awesome warranty. Good customer service really goes a long way with me.
