I never did it with mine, but isn't the Grand Cherokee alternator a direct swap (or very easy swap at least) and it's like 130a instead of the 90a in the XJ?
Yup! the stock alternator. Hmmm Thats the first I have heard of that. I'll have to look in to that. Thanks nick!

Well I had developed a serious vibe coming from the front after the Elbe Hills run and my 200 mile trip home afterwards. I got under the Jeep and gave the front driveshaft a good wiggle thinking I had a bad U-joint. No such luck. The end of the DS was moving side to side but, so was the front pinion shaft. I bought a new pinion seal in hopes I could just replace the seal and tighten the pinion nut up and lose all the play.

Well, I tightened the pinion nut as far as it would go and got rid of the majority of the side to side play. I knew it wouldn't last long after swapping the gears as I did a backyard job. Three years is pretty good for not even setting bearing preload or backlash...other than eyeballing it and using my calibrated elbow. I also noticed while fooling with the front pinion, that my drivers side steering knuckle U-joint is hashed. So....looks like I will be swapping the knuckle U-joints out of both sides before I go wheeling again. The good news is that my front DS U-joint is fine.

Finished changing front axle and drive shaft and installed a new amp. Now to dig the 20s out of storage and put some bump in it. Btw any good way to tell if your double cardian is going bad before there's chunks missing out of it and the ball comes out in pieces?

Edit seems like alot of axle problems. 2 in a row!

Just got started on the winch bumper for the new csi 8000lb low profile winch. Kinda strayed from my original design but now I have no loss of ground clearance!! Holy crap my arms are sore from drilling 16 half inch holes in .250 plate for frame mounts!!

So, I replaced the front pinion seal and tightened up the pinion nut as far as it would go. That took care of most of the side to side play my pinion had. I swapped out my short side axle shaft with my trail spare and put the front DS back on. I also cleaned up, sanded and repainted my rock sliders. They had a lot of rock rash from the Elbe Hills run. So all of that and replacing and properly grounding the CB antenna and coax and I am all ready for the next wheeling run.

These are some pics of what I'm plannin on doin really soon. I already made a template of cardboard for the rear guards. Not sure though whether I should use 3/16th or 1/8th sheet metal for the guards?
