Maybe a rock stuck in the guard for the rotor? Wheel bearing? U joint?

I looked in the guard when I replaced the rotors today didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Lots of dried mud all over under there lol. Hoping its not the wheel bearings. I plan on upgrading my ujoints soon too

oregon tho.. doorless laws vary state to state. in washington it's illegal. however, just like with the mudflap law, they tend to not enforce it. no guarantee you won't run into a pissy cop who'd cite you tho. it's a roll of the dice really. as long as you aren't driving like an idiot, you'll probably be fine

No its not, all the bolts that hold a stock xj driveshaft on are 8mm. 4 bolts for the rear ds. 8 bolts for the front.

On the front DS by the CV joint/transfer case, they are 13mm or 1/2 inch

The rear DS only req 8mm that is true.

Its like that on my 88 and 98 anyway. Havent worked on anything newer in that area.

You must be thinking of something else. They are all 8mm. I guess I have never worked on a manual, but i can tell you with 100% certainty, on an auto xj they are all 8mm.
