Well, guys as all of you know who went on the Walker Valley Run on Jan 7th, my right hand side LCA axle mount let go after years of abuse. It had bent on the Walker Run a few weeks prior. I massaged it back into place with my BFH in hopes to get this one last run out of it. Well, we all know what happens when metal bends. then, is beat back into place. yeah, it weakened it bigtime and about halfway through the first trail it bent again. I wrapped it up really tight with a ratchet strap but, a heavy right foot trying to climb the little rock climb at the beginning of Rons Run it snapped off completely. Tieing it back together with a ratchet strap and wrapping the winch cable around the axle and pulling it center in the wheel well, got me home. Thanks again, Dave (Popcan Cherokee) for the awesome Redneck engineering...lol. It got me home. These pics are of the HP D30 axle out of a 94 Cherokee that I bought this weekend. I've already ordered a set of 1/4 inch thick HD LCA axle mounts from Undercover Fab. Popcan is gonna bring his welding tools up to my place here in the near future and we are going to build, truss, gusset and otherwise make this D30 into something I will never have to worry about breaking again. So, Project Homebrew Super 30 begins.....

I guess you can't read or didn't read the part about "trussing", "gusseting", "building" Trussing and gusseting means to add large pieces of thick steel in the weak areas to add strength. Read more and don't be so quick to come back with a SMARTA$$ comment and you may understand better next time.

Yeah Kid, gonna start shopping around for Chromo shafts and HD U-joints next. I still have those same shafts I bought down there at the Puyallup Swap meet a couple of years ago. Still have that same ZJ tierod I bought from you, too. All I did was put new U-joints in them and they have been good to go, so far. I still just have an Aussie locker in a stock D30 carrier, too. haven't had any issues with it either. Yeah, I really think everything else will stand up to the 35s just fine as long as I get a set of chromo shafts and HD U-joints. Planning on going up to 35s with the next new set of tires...LOL.

Hey bud, is a there a certain year or type of D44 axle to get the knuckles off of, that fit the D30...Cuz I'd really like to upgrade the brakes on the cheap, too. I've heard of a certain year of Grand Cherokee front axle that you can rob the knuckles off of and it gets you stronger knuckles, brakes and over the knuckle steering linkage but I can't rmemeber what years.

Right, buying stronger shafts and buying a stronger carrier/locker and doing nothing to the axle housing and then paying somebody to put it all to together for you, now that makes a Super 30, right?? Thats a bunch of
No thanks. Those fancy chromoly axles, bigger U-joints and after market lockers won't do $hit for you if your stocker housing bends or breaks. I think I'd rather learn from my own trial and error and from talking with brother wheelers, who I know build and wheel their own Jeeps, about where weak points are and coming up with "(Homebrew)" upgrades that have worked for them and build my own "(Homebrew)" Super 30. Which is what I called it from the start, "MY Homebrew Super 30 that is my own design not some Super 30 kit that some company designed and anybody can have that has enough money to buy it. Because we all know here on Cherokee Forum that real Jeeps are built not bought. I've seen D30s that are built right stand up to 37s just fine. I will never have tires bigger than 35s on my jeep so paying the rediculous amount of cash required to have a D44 custom built for me isn't worth it. So you put your idea of a Super 30 on your jeep and I will put my idea of a Super 30 on my Jeep. then, let's go wheeling together sometime and see whose jeep can do more and still stay together. the guys i wheel with and I always carry plenty of trail spares so we won't leave you stranded on the trail.
