Oh, I forgot to tell you guys. I also ordered new extended front bump stops to work along with the hockey pucks to keep my new 35" tires from eating the fenders. The extended bump stops and hockey pucks were VERY effective at keep my 33s out of the fenders on my 91 Cheroke......that is until I went to Rimrock and the nuclear mud ate up all things rubber on my front axle. I also picked up another D30 axle complete hub to hub, for spare parts and a set of mud flap mounts so I can be all legal beagle when driving it on the road.....THANKS ALEX!!!!! You better get those front and rear 44s together and under your Jeep in time for the ELBE run!!!!

Yes, definitely more vent tube length....and a better pinion seal, too. I can't believe how nasty that diff. was inside....and even more it's true testament to how tuff D44 axles are that this thing didn't just lock up on me.

Nothing new to report on the Jeep today. I did, however, go to Boeing for a job interview today. So hopefully I will be starting a much better paying job soon.

Hey guys, well I ended up getting Saturday and Sunday off this weekend. I did get out to the garage and get some more work done on the D44 and a few other things. Sorry about the picture quality but, I just got a new phone and I'm still learning how to use it. As you can see from the first pics I finally got the Carrier Bearings removed. My new master rebuild kit came with new Ring Gear bolts so I removed the ring gear, too. I gave one more once over with the degreaser and here the carrier is all stripped down except for my Aussie Locker. I won't go into how I removed the carrier bearings other than to say even with my new shop press and bearing spreader I still ended up using copious amounts of cut off wheel and BFH to get the bearings off. Before I pressed the new bearings on I heated them up in the oven for 15 minutes and 350 degrees. I think it took me a total of 30 seconds to press both of the new carrier bearings on. My new press worked awesome for that.

Here's a pic to show you all what my diff covers will look like when I get them on the Jeep. The diff. covers will be red to match the new Jeep and the diff. guards and bolts will be black. I think they will look pretty sharp once they are back on the axles.

As soon as the axles are rebuilt and ready to go on the Jeep.....cuz I want to put the lift, axles and tires all on at the same time.

Tomorrow after work I plan to pull the pinion gear out, get it and the diff. housing cleaned up. Then press the old bearings off and press the new bearings on the pinion. Hope to the Ring and Pinion gars back in and set up this week. Then I just have to go to Pick n Pull and find a Crown Vic to donate it's rear disc backing plates, calipers and rotors. Then a new coat of black and the rear axle will be ready to install.

Hey there guys. Well, tonight I went out and removed the pinion gear from the axle housing. It came out reasonably easy for as crappy as I figured it would be based on how fun removing the carrier bearings was. The front bearing slid right off. The rear bearing was a different story. As you can see in the pic. the bearing was all there when it was nasty and gone except for the inner race after the cleaning. It literally fell apart while I was scrubbing it....so, I went ahead and tried to press the old inner race off and again my POS bearing puller failed me....so I'm sure I will be removing that with the good old cut off wheel. That's all the farther I got tonight.

Hey guys.....well I finally removed the rear pinion bearing. I think that thing had all but welded itself to the gear. I had to remove the inner bearing race with my cut off wheel in 6 small pieces so as to not score up the pinion gear too badly. As you can all see in the pict, the Carrier and Pinion are all set up with their new bearings. I just need to clean the rest of the poop out of the diff. housing and install and setup the gears. Then I need to cut off the stock lower shock mounts and weld them on in the new "high speed, low drag" positions and get my rear disc brakes put on. A quick coat of **** can black and the axles will both be all done.

I made some good headway on my D44 today. I started off by getting the rest of the poop cleaned out of the diff. housing. It is all spic and span inside now ready for the gears to be installed. I got really motivated to do a little fabrication so I started cutting off my old shock mounts. I cut the ends off first. This is the part the shocks actually bolt to. These ends will be welded to the axle tube on both sides. It will be so much nicer to not have those old mounts hanging down and getting hung up on everything. I got one side completely cut off and ground smooth. Then i took a pic of the other mount to compare.
