These ends will be welded to the axle tube on both sides. It will be so much nicer to not have those old mounts hanging down and getting hung up on everything. I got one side completely cut off and ground smooth. Then i took a pic of the other mount to compare.
. Wow that baby looks brand new, the anticipation of seeing you jeep done is killing me haha!

Well, I made one of the biggest Rookie mistakes a guy can make when going shopping at the junkyard....I didn't bring all of the required tools. I was REALLY pissed at first. The bolts holding the rear brake calipers on the donor Crown Vic were Hex Head. I didn't bring my hex drivers with....I even brought my torx tips But, I needed hex heads. Looking back now I think it was a blessing in disguise. I went out looking for a 94 or newer and was going to settle for the brakes from the 92. They were a little different from the pics I'd seen online but I figured I could still make them work. I went to the Pick n Pull in Tumwater. Tomorrow on my way home to Oak Harbor I will be making a stop at the Tacoma Pick n Pull. They have a 94 and a 95 Crown Vic on their online inventory. Hopefully, tomorrow Dale Jr. or Kasey Kahne will win Daytona and I will have some 94-95 Crown Vic rear disc brakes in my possession.

Well, guys today was a very successful day. Dale Jr. DID the Daytona 500. I DID meet up with the PO of Ole Red today and I did get the title from him FRIGGIN FINALLY!!!! You can also see the brown behind the picture of my new rear brakes. That is the panel that goes on the inside of Ole Red's hatch....complete with a set of of 6x9 speakers still mounted to it. And of corse as I I'd already mentioned I did get my 94 Ford Crown Vic rear disc brakes FINALLY!!!! They didn't come without a battle but, I fought valiantly. You'd all have been so prod of me. it was freezing cold and pouring rain in Tacoma today when I arrived at Pick n Pull. It was a complete tear down. The car even still had the rear wheels still on it. The calipers and rotors came off pretty quick and easy. I'm sure glad I made that stop by Walmart to get Hex driver's because that is what the 92 calipers were held on with. This 94's calipers were held on with Torx tip bolts so since I had my new hex tips and my torx tips I made it past that snag with no issues this time. Now when it came time to pull the backing plates off was when I realized the rear end in this car was a Ford 8.8 which meant it had POS "C" clip axles.....so under the car I went to remove the rear cover. Then I realized the carrier needed to be turned so I could get to the C clips. So, the drive shaft needed to be removed from the pinion yoke so I could turn the carrier. Then I realized the pinion shaft had to come out so I could pull the axle shafts in enough to pop the spider gears and C clips out. Man this stupid 8.8 axle caused so much more work that it was pathetic and just so I could pull the axle shafts out and throw them on the ground. That Ford 8.8 axle is the pure spawn of Satin and the guy who designed it should rot in HELL!!!! Any, I did finally get the axles out and 5 bolts on each side and the backing plates were off. I ended up paying $116 for everything...but I did get everything...even the stupid e-brake shoes and such that I won't be using.

Not sure about "amping" the 6x9s. I've never run an external amp for 6x9s before. However, if I do in fact hook up and use the 6x9s attached to the rear hatch, the stereo will be pushing four 6x9s. The idiot PO mounted 6x9s in the front doors as well. This fool chopped the hell out of the interior of this Jeep to mount these speakers. Thats probably a bit much for just the internal amp in a cheap stereo.

And......while Im thinking about the interior....if anybody out there knows where I could get my hands on a headliner that would go into an 87 XJ I'd really like to get my hands on one.

I didn't do anything with the rear end tonight out in the garage. I figured I'd take a night off to recover from my junkyard wounds. I gashed my head and my right pointer finger pretty good while I was working under that POS Ford. Probably should have gotten my head stitched but I'll live. Just knowing I have the rear discs in my garage and the title to my Jeep finally in hand has me feeling pretty good. Now, as soon as I can figure out a time to be at the DOL before 5pm, while working 10 hour days, I will be getting my Jeep and my trailer's titles put in my name.

I went out to the garage for a little while tonight. Long enough to get my other OEM lower rear shock mount ground off. Here are a couple picks of the axle all ready to have the new mounts welded on in the new location. It's also ready to have the new rear disc brakes put on it and to have the gears stuffed back into it. So much to do but I am chipping away at it.

I will have more room for fire wood and camping supplies this time. I will be able to rough it in a little bit more style.

I have a little update guys since been a few days I figured I would let you all know I haven't given up in project Ole Red. I actually have been moving all of my tools and Jeep parts down to my new shop space I am renting. Its awesome! Way more space and my garage at home will actually have enough space to park the wife's Charger inside.

Hey guys! Here is a picture of Ole Red sitting in the doorway of our new shop. One more truck load and all of my tools and Jeep parts will be there. I have a little bit of straightening up to do. Then I have a little over a week to get the D44 put back together. The weekend of March 15th I will be backing Ole Red into the shop for the BIG SWITCHO CHANGO. The new lift will be installed. The newly rebuilt axles will be installed. The transfer case with SYE will be installed and most importantly the 35 inch tires will be installed. I will post pics as soon as it is done. Here is a picture of my new trailer, too.

Today I moved the last load of stuff over to my new shop. The only thing left in my garage at home that is Jeep is the old blown up 4.0 from my white Jeep sitting on my engine stand....and it will be going away sometime this weekend and the engine stand will go over to the new shop for a future project. I also did some leg work today to help set me up for success. I arranged for a buddy of mine to weld my lower shock mount studs onto my D44 housing tomorrow night after work. Also, on my way home from work tomorrow I will be stopping by the Dodge garage in Burlington to get a set of 2003+ Jeep Wrangler Rubicon rear D44 axle retainers. They are the ones I will need to make my new Crown Vic rear disc set up work correctly on my Cherokee D44. Pictures of that will be coming soon.
