You make a very valid point, Buddy. I want to try, though. A little more technical wheeling and a little less hammer down wheeling will be the ticket. You know me, though. I will never be able to give up the hammer down wheeling all together...LOL!!!

Well, this how my day started. I called the junkyard at 8am. I had to run home and get my front tow hooks pulled off. I also had to remove the lower dash trim for a buddy and the TCU for me, for a trail spare. Then, I was at the junkyard office doing paperwork by 9am. My old Jeep was on the truck headed out before 10am.

There is something else I just have to tell you guys because I think it is such a bunch of
So, this clown that drove the truck out from the junkyard jumps out, looks at my Jeep and gets right on his cell phone. I hear him telling them how my Jeep is completely picked clean and is just an empty shell. He then gets off the phone and informs me that my Jeep is of no value to him since I picked it so clean. So I ask does that mean you can't or won't take it. He says he still will take it but it will cost mt $45. What a crock of S--T, I'm thinking. So if I would have left the roughly $2000 worth of parts that I removed from my Jeep, on it, he wouldn't have charged me the $45. I said whatever and asked if he takes cards because I had no cash and wasn't expecting to have to pay since I was GIVING him the Jeep to turn in for recycle scrap and make money off of. He said yes he can except a card. Only on Whidbey Island, man. I swear!!! He claims that a rig like a Cherokee is like it's made of styrofoam. Once all of the componants are removed from the shell it is really super light and he gets paid for scrap metal by the pound.

After I removed all of the pieces I wanted to keep for my new Jeep I just wanted the damn thing out of my driveway. I figured I was doing the recyclers a favor by giving them the Jeep body. I was a little ticked off but, my wife was a quick voice of reason. I could have rented a trailer and hauled the Jeep off to a number of places but by the time I paid to rent a trailer at $50 a day and it takes $100 to fill my truck's tank with diesel. That's three times more than I had to pay the Schmuck from the Junkyard to haul it away and I just wouldn't have gotten enough of a return to make it worth it.

So, I was flipping through the pages of my latest Peterson's Offroad Mag the other night and I came upon an article about these guys who rehabbed an old lift on an Early Bronco. The leaf springs on said Bronco were a muddy, rusty mess just like mine that I removed from my old Jeep. The guys in article removed the alignment pins, scrubbed the individual leafs, wired brushed the individual leafs, used a cleaner called Krud Kleaner or something like that and then painted the individual leafs with a graphite paint. So, I started the rehab on my leaf springs last night. I have a few pics of my progress, so far. They were nasty, muddy, rusty and broken to start with. The bushings are worn out, too. Hopefully I can get the spare Rough Country bushings I have to work. A new set of leaf spring bushings from Rusty's is going to be $59.00 plus shipping and their shipping costs are horrible.

Here are a couple more pics. You can see that even after the scrub job the leafs were very rusty. I cleaned up the spring alignment clip bolts and the pinion angle shims. These shims are not like the cheesey aluminum ones that came with my lift kit. These shims are STEEL. They are also for sale. The first $20 takes them home. You can see in the final picture, the difference between the leafs before and after being wire wheeled to get rid of the rust.

Yeah, I was thinking to myself last night while I was wire wheeling the leaf springs, that I'm going to clean the sliders up next and slap them and the quarter guards on. I'm not going to put the lift on until I get the axles fixed up and ready to go in. I just recieved the bearing and shim kit in the mail the other day and I now have my new shop press to do the rear gears and I'm also working on getting the parts to do the rear disc conversion and new shock mounts on the D44.
