There are two ways to do it that I have read about. You can get the rear discs from a mid 90s Ford rear 8.8, whether that be in a Crown Vic or an Exploder. You can also use the rear discs from a mid 90s Jeep Grand Cherokee. I would personally rather use Jeep pieces just to keep my Jeep all Jeep. I will go whatever route I can find the parts the cheapest. So, you get the backing plates, rotors, calipers and hoses from a Grand. Then, go to the Dodge stealership and get a set of rear axle spacers for a 2003 Wrongler rear D44 and you are good to go. The spacers are said to be only $7.00 apiece.

I did more work on my rear leaf springs last night. I completely wore down the wire wheel on my bench grinder. I did get all of the leafs done, though. Once done wire wheeling, I hit all of the leafs on both sides with "poor man's" degreaser (Brake Parts Cleaner). While I was finishing up the wire wheeling on the one set of springs I strarted painting the others. I have a pic of bottom sides painted and top sides painted. The last pic is of the leafs with the spray on Dry Lubricant applied and the springs are all ready to be put back together with a new spring pin. I ended using brake parts cleaner as a degreaser, spray on dry lubriant and satin black pisscan rather than that EZ-Slide graphite paint I saw in the magazine article. As usual the magazine has a much bigger budget than I do for a project so I went with "Poor Man" equivalents.

Today I finished up the rehab. on my leaf springs. I painted the other leafs and then sprayed on two coats of the dry lubricant, like I did on the first one. Then, I put the leaf springs back together with brand new spring pins. Once I finished putting the springs together I started the tedius job of removing the old spring eye bushings. I beat and cut and pryed and cussed my way through both bushings in the first spring. Then, I realized my new 20 ton shop press was useful in this job. The press made short work of removing the bushings from the other spring. I was able to get the Rough Country bushings I had to work for the small eyes at the shackle end of the spring. I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and contact Rusty's for replacements for the large frame end spring eyes.

Quite a difference between what I started with and the finished product. I'm really happy with how they turned out. The dry lubricant that I applied has really made the the leaves super slippery and should help the leaf springs flex quite well.

Tonight I'm going to throw my rock sliders and rear quarter guards out in the yard and hit them really good with the hose and scrub brush. Then, it will be wire wheel and paint time for them.

I gotta get some of this junk out of the garage and put on the new Jeep so I have room in there to work on the things I really need to work on...like the rear axle.

Thanks Buddy! They were quite a project. They took a little more time and effort than I'd expected but, they have been on my old Jeep for 8 long years of abusive 4wheeling...LOL. I just got off the phone with Customer Service at Rusty's Offroad. The Polyurethane replacement bushings for the large frame end spring eyes are in the mail to me. They will be here in a few days. I also ordered a set of weld on lower shock mounts that will weld on to the front and rear of my D44 axle tube that will put my lower shock mounts even with the axle tube. I will get those stockers that hang down below the axle and get hung up on everything, cut and ground off ASAP!!!!!

Rusty's cut me some slack on the $59.00 price of a full leaf spring bushing kit. They only charged me $35.00 for the large front bushings for both springs. Then the price of the shock mounts was $16.00 for a grand total of $51.00 for parts. They did, however, bend me over and stick me right in the rear on shipping. JUST LIKE ALWAYS!!!! $21.00 in shipping for a $51.00 purchase. Man their shipping sucks!!!

i hate that crap. so many companies are doing that now. they'll offer free shipping for orders over x amount, but screw the people that only need smaller orders. glad you were able to catch a small break though.

I took my rock sliders, quarter panel guards, belly skid and u-bolt plates out and gave them a quick scrub up in the front yard. These pieces will all get a little love with the wire qwheel and then a couple of coats of fresh **** can satin black, too. Just like the leaf springs got. I need to drag my gas tank skid, front bumper and the rear tire carrier out and get them cleaned up, too.
