Hey guys, need some input here!
I pulled the motor from my parts jeep and am going to put all new gaskets and seals in it.
What else you guys think i should do while i have the head off? The motor is on an engine stand so i can do whatever i want!
1. I dont think it needs a full rebuild but am not sure, whats a good indication that it might?
2. Also i need to know what a decent price is to be expected to pay for the head to be flattened/magnafluxed etc and have the valves redone.
3. Anyone know any good places around yakima to have the machine work done?

id do anything that would be a ***** to do in the jeep, freeze plugs if it needs them, stuff on the back of the motor (dont have a jeep anymore so i dont remember whats back there), etc. maybe do bearings as well for good measure?

If you have time and money you should rebuild it. polish crank, new bearings, oil pump, timing chain kit, block hone and piston rings (If pistons are still good),freeze plugs, full valve job and full gasket set. i think a engine kit for that engine will be around 500-600 machine work around 300. worth the extra time and money for the long run. or if u have good funds do a performance build
But if your just going to use it as a temp spare just new seals and gaskets all around. you should be fine if engine is good. check the cyl walls while head is off, And for the head it should be around 150 for the valve job. but bring ur own seals some machine shops put cheap china seals sometimes. Good luck im still looking for a core to build myself.

Thanks for the input! I will probably have the head redone and the valve job done as this motor will probably be in my jeep for around a year while i build the other into a stroker.
I saw something about having the shop do a 3 angle grind on the valve seats, is that something i should do or just let the machine shop decide? With this motor i just want it stock and reliable. I will do all the bells and whistles on the stroker.

also, i dont know where your located nick, but i have a 4.0 block you can have if you want it lol, probably going to scrap it soon as its just out there sitting by the parts jeep, dont think i need 3, also have a head and intake but im kinda saving those, unless someone wanted to buy it i suppose.
Come to think of it, the block has a head on it but no valve cover

Sounds like lots of time an money wasted. Why not stroke the one you have pulled already....or just pull your an stroke it instead of swapping motors in an out

Because the motor that is in my jeep is shot, i hydrolocked it a few trips back and have low compression in two cylinders. I want to wheel my jeep while i build the stroker over time so i need a motor right?
The stroker i anticipate taking me at least a year to build just simply due to finances and wanting to take my time and do it right, the "refreshed motor" will only cost me about 400 to do everything i want to it.
When i drop the stroker in I will have a really nice spare engine sitting around after that! Thats my logic behind it anyways.
