Default line I.D

I posted this on another forum, and out of 30+ views, no one responded with an answer. So I will try here. So in my 93 manual, 4.0 cherokees engine bay, I recently noticed a hose hanging, and disconnected. It is a black 1/2" hose and it has what appears to be a broken plastic connection fitting. It runs from drivers side, to passenger side along back of motor, and is disconnected/broken on passenger side. . It is connected to a metal line along lower, back of engine. Just curious if any of yous know what it may be, and where it connects before I have to break down and buy a haynes. Thanks.

That's the one on the drivers side that is attached to firewall and has little white breather at top if i'm not mistaken, and correct me if i'm wrong. This one runs from divers side, along back side of motor, and looks like it was hooked up to something. I'm uploading a couple pics now.

Big arrow is pointing towards front of jeep. Little arrow is showing where the metal line is coming from drivers side along back of engine.

Thanks, appreciate the response. I've looked on the canister, and cant figure where it would connect with that type of fitting. There is two that have nothing attached, one is capped, and the other is just a barbed male end. I assume that is the one this was attached to, but can't wrap my head around the fitting in the end of tubing.

So I pulled out canister to look at ports, and there are only 2 lines hooked up to it. Both run from it to air filter and there is no way to hook any lines to other ports, as one port is a vent, and the other is capped. One is a 5/8" line and the other is a small vacuum line. Now, The one in op, is long enough to reach back to transfer case, but wasn't attached. It runs along top of tranny tunnel, from d/s to passenger, on back of engine, then disappears. I've also located another line, which i now know due to tracking, runs to gas tank, but was also hanging unattached. Now i am more confused than originally and now have 2 lines i cant figure where they attach.

Ill look at my jeep in the mornin and see if I can figure out what the lines are. My rig has been molested of most vacuum lines and emissions stuff but a few of the hard lines are there and I know what they went to. And before anyone flames me over the emissions thing...my jeep passes emissions EVERY time. They just don't look under the hood!

The line in the pics is either the trans vent or tcase vent. It seems to be broken off. Search for vent lines to both tcase and trans. If one doesn't have one you found it.

As for the second line.... no idea till I see pics

Yeah, the original line disappears into back of motor and is mounted to bell housing. I'll search around some more in am and see if I can't locate where it broke from. The other is mounted to firewall, and changes to metal line that goes to the gas tank. Just not sure where ir was connected. I'm thinking someone at some point installed wrong evap can and just let the line hang. Thanks for input.
