help a newbee out :) sye ?
i thought all xj's needed the sye kit but after reading another thread i found this.
Rear Driveshaft - The 228 and 229 transfer cases used a fixed output yoke, with a 2-piece driveshaft incorporating the slip spline. Otherwise, The rear is a one-piece shaft with standard u-joints at both ends. The slip yoke is located on the output shaft of the transfer case. On 84-95 models, the yoke slides in and out of the transfer case and is lubricated by the ATF fluid internally. On 96-01 due to a design change, the slip yoke is external (does not slide in and out of the transfer case). This slip yoke is covered with a rubber boot
now to me it looks as though my 97 has the fix all ready ?
thanks to anyone who can help

Your jeep still has a slip yoke on the xfer case, its just external and has a boot covering it where as the older tcases have it inside a housing.
A slip yoke eliminator puts a yoke attached to your transfer case instead of the splined shaft that the driveshaft slides over (slip yoke)
basically all that is acheived by the newer model xfer cases was you no longer have to worry about losing fluid out of your tcase if you need to drop the driveline for some reason.

Yes the 97+ have an external slip yoke. Im running 4.5" of lift with 4* shims and a 1" tcase drop on a 231 tcase. I dont need a sye with my current configuration but all jeeps seem to be different. Most people seem to have driveline vibrations after 3.5-4"+ of lift. I wouldnt worry about it unless it has vibes or the driveshaft is to short and looks like its gonna fall out at full axle droop.
BTW Nice camo
Is that a print or did you paint it?
