Yesterday I get pulled over by a State Patrol just off I-90. She sited me two tickets. One for my taillights the other for my headlights.
She said that they are blue which meant that I had and HID kit. And HIDs are illegal in WA. She printed out some paper about WA adopting a federal law about HIDs.
I looked it over and found a few ways around the ticket I believe. Take a look and tell me what you think.
... I'll post the print out in a bit.
As for my taillights. I've run those for almost 2years been pulled over many of times and not once has any of them ticked me or said anything about them.
Patrol said that the lights have to be white light with a red cover.
Many of DOT approved light are clear with a red light.
Any thoughts?

The red one is the turn signals and brake lights? Only problem I see is its just a bit small... but that shouldn't get you a ticket.

when u go to court for it just bring in as many sample of other production vehicles with the same set up with the clear lens and red led. just go to a dealership and take a bunch of pictures. if the light you are using is dot approved they cant really do anything because its government approved to be on the road.

How exactly are those illegal? Because when I see my local fire dept and water rescue pull their trailers they have the same type with the clear lens. They must be breaking the law also. Why does every ambulance in the area here have clear led tail lights also, they are definitly breaking the law also. They are completely legal as long as he has ones the are dot approved. Just to finish up why do the police have led light bars with clear glass on it? Someone better go quick and write them a ticket for clear lens lights.

How long has this law been in effect? Perhaps if you have proof the HID's were installed before the law took place you could get around it, you may still need to replace them but you could avoid the fine.

headlights are a completely different story that i stay out of. if you read close on that site u shared it just says u need 2 red reflectors but doesnt say anything about having them on the lights. OP just get some strips of red reflective tape and put it on the edges of your bumper.

an emergency vehicle doesnt come from the factory with all that equipment on it. the government buys the vehicles and sends them out to private contracted business's to add all those goodies making it all aftermarket. most of those lights they use, you can get the exact same ones from any auto parts store or the same supplier that puts them on the emergency vehicles.

You might beat the headlight ticket IF there DOT approved but I think you will be stuck with the taillight ticket. I know several people who have had the same ticket.. Get reflectors on,take pics and try like hell to get out of it. :-)
