You should think before typing.... sure the fire dept and ambulances have these lights.... for strobes. And if they are used as a tail/brake light there is also a red catseye style reflector or dot approved reflector tape. So before you spaz out on someone read his entire post. Also yes a prius has clear tails wirh red leds........they also have reflectors in the lights. The one thing to make them lights dot approved is a simple red side marker.

Yes I know how it works but you are not an emergency vehicle. Another example is a prius. Same thing applies, it is the rules at date of manufacture that apply. I think its bs too but that's how it is..

they have different lights for the strobes. i was talking about their tail/brake/turn lights all of them are clear lens with colors led's. not one has a red reflector on the light or in the light. they just have a strip of reflective tape across the bottom of the vehicle.

Fire, ems, and da police all have flashing red and blue also. Something we can't have, they aren't breaking any laws, just goings by protocol set for them. If your state laws say no hid, then no hid. As for tail lights, that's an odd one. Just paint em pink.
Probably just got a stater who was not having a good day.

You have to have a red reflective surface on the rear facing part of a vehicle.

Thats the freaking point! Pkease read entire posts! We have been saying that! When an officer gave him a ticket its not just for the clear light. It was a she.... she most likly did not understand the correct terms.
It was a ticket for not having dot approved tail lights. The entire box is concidered a "tail light"
If reflectors where to be added I bet the ticket would of never happened.
Qnd that "reflective tape" is what makes any lights they use legal.

I worked for a couple of shops that upfit trucks for the government. You can definatly get away with a small piece of red reflective tape near the tailights. The only reason those are "illegal" is the lack of reflector not the color. Its for seeing a vehical at night when its lights are off. As far as the HIDs, you can't get away with much.... you can get popped for almost any color tint to the bulbs, HID or not. However if you got a housing that was made for HIDs (if they make one) you might back able to get away with it, although expect a hassle. This is because the way the light gets broadcast from the bulb and reflected in the housing.

I'm not sure why. Bad luck I guess.
I'll add the red reflector tape take reference pics.
And I'll double check the headlights. To see of they say DOT or have the E circled.

So are you going to fix the lights to DOT standards and fight the ticket? Good to know HID's are a ticket if you run them. I got a number to a really got lawyer who can give you some free advice if you would like.
